Mission Statement

The mission of the Burt Wood School of Performing Arts is to nurture the creative artist within each student. We are committed to providing a thorough and comprehensive foundation of knowledge of the creative and performing arts within the context of a safe and creative environment. We pledge to instill a commitment to and recognition of the performing arts as an integral part of a well-rounded education. We celebrate the value, beauty and necessity of the performing arts in our world.

Commitment to Community Service

The Burt Wood School of Performing Arts and The Alley Theatre is committed to sharing the power of art throughout our community. Our commitment to volunteer service is what sets us apart from all other performing arts venues in the area. Students at The Burt Wood School are encouraged to give back to their communities by sharing their time and talent. Whether it's hosting a fashion show for cancer, performing for senior citizens, performing for veterans or at local festivals and charity fund-raisers, caroling at area nursing homes, collecting food for a local pantry, walking for cancer, or reading to children in school, the students of The Burt Wood School share their time and talent with gratitude, goodwill and grace.

Dedication

LOUISA BURT WOOD PRATT
(February 9, 1886 - November 4, 1973)

It could be said that Louisa Burt Wood Pratt is a founding mother of The Burt Wood School of Performing Arts. The lifelong Middleborough resident and accomplished musician shared her musical gifts as a Middleborough voice teacher in the 1920s. A lady with a zest for life and an enduring love of the arts, she shared the magic of music with all of her students. Upon her death, a scholarship was founded in her name for local students pursuing musical studies. Awarded through the Middleborough Cabot Club G.F.W.C., one of the first full-scholarship recipients was Lorna Sleeper-Brunelle, now owner of the Burt Wood School of Performing Arts. It is with love, gratitude and tremendous respect that the Burt Wood School of Performing Arts is dedicated to the memory of Louisa Burt Wood Pratt. May her spirit, embodied here, continue to inspire the lives of artists for years to come.
