Author Talk: Mark Rucker
Wednesday, June 7
4:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Join us for an online conversation with Mike Rucker, Ph. D. on Wednesday, June 7, at 4:00 PM as he discusses his book The Fun Habit: How the Disciplined Pursuit of Joy and Wonder Can Change Your Life.

Doesn’t it seem that the more we seek happiness, the more elusive it becomes? There is an easy fix, hiding in plain sight. Fun is an action you can take here and now, practically anywhere, anytime. Through research and science, we know fun is enormously beneficial to our physical and psychological well-being, yet fun’s absence from our modern lives is striking.

Looking to slow down from her fast-paced life in New York City, Beck embarked on a one-year getaway to Provence. One year, turning into five, Beck moved to the French countryside, documenting her life as “An American in Provence.” Equal parts art book, travel diary, memoir, and cookbook, An American in Provence transports you to the South of France. Summer Community Art Project Call to Artists!
The Woods Hole Public Library Community Art Project began in the summer of 2014, when community artists were prompted to create something using discarded books as their medium. Since then, we have used nautical charts, horseshoe crab molts, library catalog cards, and even chairs as an artistic medium.  The theme for this summer is “Found in Nature,” and we invite our community artists to use materials that are found outside in the natural world around us. As always, the only limit on submissions is your imagination! We simply ask that as materials are gathered, artists are mindful of the environmental impact their material gathering may have.

Artists and crafters of all ages are welcome to create a submission, and finished artwork may be brought to the library beginning on July 10. We will hold a reception on Saturday, July 22, from 5:30-7:00 pm, during which the artwork will be auctioned off to support the library.  Each summer we are absolutely astounded by the creativity and generosity of our community, and we look forward to what this year’s theme inspires!

Knitting at the Library
Mondays and Fridays

Knitters and fabric enthusiasts of all stripes are welcome to join in on the crafty fun happening at the library! On Monday evenings at 6pm, our Learn to Knit group meets upstairs in the Library reading room. If you are new to knitting, there will be experienced knitters on hand to instruct. Stitchers of all experience levels are welcome. On Fridays at 3pm, our Library knitting group meets downstairs in the meeting room. While knitters of all experience levels are welcome, this group is geared toward those who do not need one-on-one instruction.
