Poetry Workshop with Jon Hare
(And a call for poems!)

Join us for a workshop on short poetry forms at the Library on Saturday February 4 at 1 PM, led by year-round resident Jon Hare, who is the author of the haiku volume of the pandemic “Through the Magnolia: a haiku diary from March & April 2020”. During this event he will focus on all three Japanese short forms (tanka, haiku and senryu). Aspiring poets of all ages are welcome to his presentation, which of course is free and open to the public.
As we look ahead to warmer days, we hope to inspire the community to write their own short form poems in celebration of Spring. The poems will be laminated and displayed throughout Woods Hole beginning April 1 and through all of Poetry Month. A map of the Poetry Walk will be available at the library.
Poets may choose to relate to a specific spot in Woods Hole but do not have to. Poems may be submitted in person at the Library or via email to whpl_mail@clamsnet.org. The deadline for submissions is Feb 28, 2023.
Fabric & Fiber Sale

The big day is almost here! People come from far and wide, first to donate, and later, to buy fabric, yarn, and notions. (Avid sewers and knitters see nothing confusing about this tradition of refreshing one’s supply.) The sale is a one day event, during which a huge amount of fabric and yarn changes hands.
This sale was started in honor of Fabric Corner, Falmouth’s former fabric store which used to have an annual sale on the same day as Super Bowl Sunday to give family members who just might not be thrilled about the football game an alternative enticing event.
Bricks & Brews at Aquatic Brewing

Calling all A.F.O.L. (Adult Fans of LEGO®): the Woods Hole Public Library and Aquatic Brewing are joining forces once again to bring you Bricks and Brews! The Library provides the LEGO bricks and building challenges, Aquatic sells the beer, and you provide the building skill and ingenuity! Bricks & Brews will take place at Aquatic Brewing, located in Falmouth at 661 Main St., on Wednesday, February 15, from 6pm to 8pm. The building theme for the evening will be revealed at the beginning of the evening and teams will compete to win in various categories that tie into the theme. The winning builds will be displayed at the Library and winners will receive a gift certificate for the Library’s fabulous used book sale. Leave your own LEGO bricks and the kids at home! This will be a fun evening to relax and be creative with fellow LEGO enthusiasts, exchange tips and ideas, and enjoy delicious locally brewed beer.
Vacation Week Movie for Kids

Bring the kids to library for a fun family movie during February vacation! We'll be screening the new animated feature Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, which is based on the best-selling book series by Bernard Waber.
When the Primm family (Constance Wu, Scoot McNairy, Winslow Fegley) moves to New York City, their young son Josh struggles to adapt to his new school and new friends. All of that changes when he discovers Lyle - a singing crocodile (Shawn Mendes) who loves baths, caviar and great music-living in the attic of his new home. The two become fast friends, but when Lyle’s existence is threatened by evil neighbor Mr. Grumps (Brett Gelman), the Primm’s must band together with Lyle’s charismatic owner, Hector P. Valenti (Javier Bardem), to show the world that family can come from the most unexpected places and there’s nothing wrong with a big singing crocodile with an even bigger personality.
Creative Writing Workshop for Kids

Are your kids looking for something fun and creative to do over February vacation? Local author T.M. Murphy will lead a workshop at the Woods Hole Library called "The Power of Suspense in a Story", geared toward kids in grades 4 and up (or age 9 1/2 and up). T.M. Murphy will talk about what he's learned that has helped him write suspense. He will read a suspense scene from his book The Secrets of Code Z and talk about how he wrote it. Each participant will receive the beginning of a suspenseful scene that Mr. Murphy wrote. It will then be their mission to finish it and read it to the group.
T.M. Murphy is the author of the Belltown Mystery Series and Saving Santa’s Seals. Murphy has been featured in 101 Highly Successful Novelists and chosen by Cape Cod Life Magazine as One of the 400 Cape Cod People Who Have Brightened Our Lives. Mr. Murphy and illustrator Mark Penta Co-created Super Strange Story Starters and Creative Coloring and Far-Out Fun. The third book in the Totally Weird Activity Book Series, Unusual Objects in Fantastic Places, will be released in late spring of 2023.
T.M. spends his winters touring schools and his summers teaching young writers at The Writers’ Shack in Falmouth Heights.

Poetry Reading with Eric Edwards

Local poet Eric Edwards will join us for a reading from his newest collection of poems, Black Apple: Collected Prose Poems 1975 to 2022. The poems in this collection cover a wide range of topics including nature, art, religion, philosophy, surrealism, poetry, mythology, peace, war, violence, domestic life, gardening, and more.
