Summer Reading Kick Off: Local Author Book Fair

Woburn Public Library is excited to kick off this year's summer reading program with our second annual Local Author Book Fair. Authors and illustrators from Woburn and nearby towns will talk about their books and have copies for sale.
This year’s authors include Gershon Ben Keren, Kelly Colón, Ewa Erdman, Jeanne Freeman, Carol Gordon Ekster, Laura Hatosy, Nicci Kadilak, EN Light, Aashna Miharia, Alicia Restucci, Ann Taylor, and more! Check back for updates.
Sign up for summer reading, enter raffles, and enjoy novelty ice cream pops generously donated by Nanabette’s Ice Cream.

Discover India: A Musical Journey
Wednesday, June 21. 7-8 PM.
The Discover India Series is a program partnership between the Woburn Public Library and the India Association of Greater Boston (IAGB). This series explores India's rich culture and includes exciting forays into history, food, art and music.
Experience Hindustani (North Indian) classical instrumental music followed by a presentation by the musicians. The presentation will include three Indian Instruments – Sita, Guitarod, Tabla.

Book, Schmook! We're doing the whole genre!
In this group, rather than reading and discussing a specific book, each time we will focus on the ins and outs of a different literary genre. Share your thoughts and opinions on the genre in general, as well as books & authors within that genre, and recommend titles you’ve enjoyed. This program is geared toward adults, and will, of course, come with snacks.
This month’s discussion will focus on: Chick lit meets Lad lit. What’s the difference?
From The Jazz Singer to A Star Is Born: A History of the Movie Musical

As soon as movies could talk, they began to sing and dance—and musicals quickly became among the most popular film genres in America. Over the next nine decades, the movie musical would evolve to embrace every type of performance, from operatta to rock and soul, from tap to ballet, and every type of format, from Broadway hits to original creations from composers like Cole Porter, George Gershwin, and Irving Berlin. This presentation will look at the fascinating history of this unique format, and include more than thirty excerpts, featuring artists like Fred Astaire, Judy Garland, the Nicholas Brothers, Busby Berkeley, Gene Kelly, and the Beatles. Needle Felted Rainbow Patches
Saturday, June 3. 2-3:30 PM.
Make a fuzzy felted patch with wool. Pick from four rainbow designs. Use the finished piece as a patch on a jacket, or frame it for a unique piece of art. Pop up Art School will show you how to use a barbed needle and wool roving to make this cool accessory. Needle felting is fun and easier than it looks!
