June is an exciting time for us at the WPL!  Not only are we kicking off our annual summer reading program, but we will also be hosting the City of Woburn's Juneteenth celebration (https://sciwoburn.org/juneteenth) for the second year running!  Join us for these fantastic festivities and our other summer programming by checking out the calendar below - we hope to see you there!
In-Person Events:
In the interest of social distancing, space is limited and registration is required for ALL children’s events.  Registration links for our programs are located on the library's Events Calendar (https://woburnpubliclibrary.org/events-calendar/) .

Masks are no longer required in the library. However, masks are encouraged in the Children's Room, especially for those who are unvaccinated, have a weakened immune system, or live with a highly vulnerable person.

Read to a Therapy Dog
Fridays (June 3rd and 17th)
Thursdays (June 23rd and 30th)
4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Young readers are invited to spend 10 minutes reading aloud to dogs from the Therapy Dogs International Program.  Registration is not required for this event - 10 minute time-slots with a dog will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.  We will try to accommodate as many children as we can without overwhelming the dogs.  Siblings and parents are welcome to join.

Moving to the Music

Bring your imaginations to the library for an afternoon of dance and dramatic play, and join us for creative movement and music led by Miss Kat.  Best for ages 3-7.

Monday June 6th (final session)
4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Join Miss Christine for Bedtime Math?s Crazy 8s, where you?ll build stuff, run and jump, make music, and make a mess - it?s a totally new kind of math club!  Make mischief and memories with activities like Glow-in-the-Dark Geometry, Bouncy Dice Explosion and Pirate Treasure Hunt.  You?ll get to take home some cool gadgets, too.

(Best for grades 3-5.  Registration is required for all 8 weeks - if you register for Monday, April 4th, you are registered for the entire 8-week program.  Please do your best to make it to as many meetings as possible.)

Join us for a family craft!  Use our supplies (scrapbook paper, glitter glue, stickers, and more) and see what you can create!

Saturday June 18th

Social Capital Inc. (SCI), the Woburn Public Library, and the City of Woburn are hosting the 2nd annual celebration (https://sciwoburn.org/juneteenth)  of Juneteenth Independence Day with support from the Woburn Democratic City Committee, Woburn Welcomes, and the NAACP Mystic Valley Area Branch.

The event will include a keynote speaker, food, music, vendors, a beer garden, artist exhibit, children's activities, and more!

Rookie Book Club
Monday June 27th
6:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Join our beginner's book club for children who are reading at a K to 2nd grade level. This week's book will be Backyard Camp-Out (https://find.minlib.net/iii/encore/record/C__Rb3274692__Sbackyard%20camp-out__Orightresult__U__X6?lang=eng&suite=cobalt) by Jerdine Nolen.  Copies will be available at the Children’s Room desk.)  Children (age 5 +) who are not reading independently yet can have the book read to them. We will talk about the story and do some related activities.

BeTween the Lines Book Club

Teen Crafternoon: Pride Flag Cross Stitch
Thursday June 2nd
4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Let's kick off Pride by cross-stitching a bright and beautiful Pride Flag! Never cross-stitched before, but think it looks neat? Tried a few times but never picked up the knack? Join us and learn how to cross-stitch by using the design of your favorite pride flag. We'll teach you the basic stitches, how to start, and how to end a project. We provide supplies, you provide the enthusiasm!

No cross-stitch or fiber arts experience necessary.  This is a teen program recommended for teens ages 13-18.

Therapy Dogs Visit the Teen Room

Are final exams stressing you out?  If so, come get to know Hailey and Buddha the therapy dogs!

Teens and tweens in grades 6-12 are invited to spend 10 minutes petting and relaxing with Hailey or Buddha.  Registration is not required.  10-minute timeslots with a dog will be assigned on a first-come-first-served basis.  We will try to accommodate as many teens as we can without overwhelming the dogs!

The library will be screening the LGBTQ+ cult classic But I'm A Cheerleader. No registration required.

Duct tape can hold anything, especially in a duct tape pouch!  Join us in the Makerspace to create your own duct tape zipper pouch in many sizes and colors.

This is an event for tweens & teens in grades 6-12.

Iris Book Club

Are you part of or an ally of the LGBTQ+ community?  Are you trying to find more inclusive novels?
