Celebrate Juneteenth with us!
First things first, what is Juneteenth and how can I learn more?
Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021 and many folks are curious about its origins and looking for great ways to learn more. So let's get started:

First, learn the basics with Britannica Library's short and sweet overview.

Next, share what you find with the kids in your life, with this fun and joyous celebration of freedom, "Juneteenth for Mazie."

Now that we all have the basics, let's dive deeper into how to celebrate emancipation and honor those who endured the conditions of slavery in America with this AMAZING book list available through Overdrive and Libby.

Did you know we just added a new database? Black Life in America lets patrons explore the experience and impact of African Americans as recorded by the news media. With images taken from publications of the day (as far back as 1700), this collection shows accounts of unfathomable injustices and cruelty, but it also shows protest, hope, and joy.

Still looking for more? Visit the Weston Public Library and browse our Juneteenth displays in both our adult and youth services departments.
