Oct 1-7 is Banned Books Week. According to the American Library Association, there were 45 book challenges in Massachusetts in 2022 affecting 57 titles. When we ban books, we're closing off readers to people, places, and perspectives. But when we stand up for stories, we unleash the power that lies inside every book.

Freadom to Read Wall: What does the freedom to read mean to you? Celebrate your constitutional right to read by contributing to our "Freadom to Read" wall on the main floor through October.

Let Freedom Read - Statewide Read-In: Grab a book and make yourself comfortable in the library for Let Freedom Read, a statewide read-in. Or download an eBook or audiobook through Libby or Hoopla and use #LetFreedomReadMA to post pictures to social media. Find more info here.

Thursday, Oct 5  3:00 PM

South Asian Heritage Survey

The purpose of this survey is to document the experience of Wayland residents of South Asian heritage, whether born in India or anywhere else, for the Wayland Library's local history collection. Please complete the survey by October 31. In appreciation for answering our questions, your name will go in a drawing for a $25 gift certificate for Soul of India restaurant. Contact mwright@minlib.net with any questions.

Exhibit: Tree of Lace

For the next two months, the tree outside our parking lot door will bear an unusual, beautiful fruit: vintage and antique lace preserved in cement. It’s the work of Framingham artist Pam Bonaguide. Although these lace pieces may look similar, each is as individual as the women who made them.
