Summer Reading Begins June 27th!

Visit the library beginning Monday June 27th to sign up for our annual Summer Reading program for children and teens!

Kids are invited to celebrate the start of summer with a party after the last day of school. We'll be making Ice Cream in a bag, Bubble Art and Bubble Wands. Enjoy lawn games and an obstacle course at the Vineyard Haven Public Library Courtyard!

In-person Programs for Children & Families

10:30 am and 11 am on Mondays: Outdoor Drop-in Storytime
Come join Weezie for drop-in storytime outdoors in the library courtyard, weather permitting. Best for ages 3-5, but all ages are welcome. No registration required. 

3:30 pm on Wednesdays: Community Helpers Storytime at the Family Center
Join Vineyard Haven Library Children's Librarian Emily and some very special guests at the Family Center at 3:30 pm on Wednesdays in June. The Family Center is at 35 Greenwood Avenue, across the street from the library. No registration required.

10:30 am on Fridays: Little Explorers Indoor Storytime (Registration Required)
Come join Emily on Fridays at 10:30 am for in-person storytime with your little explorer! With this interactive and hands-on storytime, come enjoy songs, stories and a sensory exploration activity to build skills for you and your little explorer. Registration is required as space is limited, and masks are required for all attendees ages five and up.  Register

Coming Soon: Courtyard Crafts, Thursdays at 3pm!
Beginning in July, join Jennifer in the garden on Thursday afternoons to make some amazing crafts! Materials are provided and registration is not required, but attendance will be limited to first arrivals, while supplies last.

Tisbury Community Summer Tennis Clinics

Free lessons for Tisbury residents of all ages!

The Tisbury Open Space and Recreation Committee, in conjunction with the West Chop Club’s Director of Tennis, David McNamara, is excited to offer a tennis outreach program this summer with free tennis lessons for Tisbury residents.

The Details:
What:    Free clinics for Tisbury residents of all ages.
Where:    The Lake Street Tennis Courts
When:    Tuesdays and Thursdays from June 28th through August 25th.

Adult clinics
-    Session 1    9:00 - 10:30AM.
-    Session 2    10:30 - 12:00PM.

Kids clinics
-    3-4PM for Peewees and Future Stars (ages 4-8)
-    4-5PM for Stars and Team (ages 9-12)
-    5-6PM for Academy (ages 13+)

If well received, the tennis outreach program will continue into future summers. This is a great opportunity to build a long-term program for the Tisbury community.

Friends of the Library Monthly Meeting

The Friends of the Vineyard Haven Public Library always welcome new members! Volunteers and those who are interested in knowing more about the Friends meet at 10:15 am on the fourth Saturday of every month. Meetings are currently being held on Zoom. Vineyard Haven Library Spice Club

A new take on a cookbook group, Spice Club meets virtually one Tuesday each month. Registration comes with a sample pack of the spice of the month and a little history about it. Prepare a recipe, and then come and discuss your opinions, experiences, and love (or hate!) of the spice on Zoom. This month: Herbs de Provence. Register

Another Summer of Drawing with Elizabeth Whelan

Join artist Elizabeth R. Whelan for a series of 19 free intermediate-level drawing classes. She will be focusing on technique, good 'starts' for drawings, and how to move beyond simple representation to bring personal concepts into your work. The classes are aimed at adults who are brushing up on their drawing skills (or just starting out), however, all are welcome.  Register for the series

Get Back into the Swing of Tennis

This group is for people that want to practice fun tennis drills in a non-competitive environment. We will have structured warm-ups for 1/2 hour followed by fun and easy drills. Please bring your own racquet and don't forget a bottle of water. We will meet at the Lake Street courts in Tisbury, 9 am to 9:50 am.

Wednesday Walk the Chop
Walk and Talk Book Club has become ''Walk the Chop'. We will meet every Wednesday at the Library and walk/run or any combination the West Chop loop. Course is not hilly and is just over 3 miles. "Young Cuba" with Jonathan Moller
Award-winning documentary photographer and human rights activist Jonathan “Jonás” Moller will present his book, 'Young Cuba' on the main floor of the Vineyard Haven Library. Moller is the author of books on Guatemala, Peru, and the diversity of young Cubans today. Moller’s work is in numerous public and private collections, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of Fine Arts Boston. Film Screening: Licorice Pizza

The story of Alana Kane and Gary Valentine growing up, running around, and falling in love in the San Fernando Valley, 1973. Nominated for Academy awards including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay. The screening of this film is a collaboration with the Oak Bluffs library and will be screened in the OB community room. MPAA rating: R
