Mayor Hedlund Seeks Volunteers for Open Seats on Town Boards and Committees

Mayor Robert Hedlund announced today that the Town is seeking volunteers for open seats on multiple Town boards and committees. “Our board and committee members share a common goal - to better the Town of Weymouth,” said Mayor Robert Hedlund. “We’re hoping to fill our open seats with new members bringing fresh perspectives and experiences to the boards.”

- Board of Assessors - shall annually, and in accordance with the general laws and the recommendations of the State Department of Revenue, make a fair cash valuation of all of the estate, both real and personal, subject to taxation within the Town.

- Community Events Committee - shall be charged with planning and conducting annual and special Town events as assigned by the Mayor.

- Cultural Council - may decide the distribution of arts lottery funds or other funds that may be available to it and may also conduct other activities to promote and encourage the arts per MGL c. 10, § 58.

- Disabilities Commission - research local problems of people with disabilities, advise and assist municipal officials and employees in ensuring compliance with state laws.

- Board of Elder Services - shall advocate for the needs of the elderly people residing in the Town of Weymouth.

- Waterfront Committee *waterfront resident requirement - Promote, preserve and protect the interests of the Weymouth waterfront.

- Board of Zoning Appeals - hears and decides individual cases brought by persons seeking land use relief; all as provided for in MGL c. 40A, §§ 7, 9, 17, and the Zoning Ordinances of the Town, Ch. 120, Zoning.

- 4th of July Committee - shall be charged with planning and conducting the annual 4th of July fireworks/event

- Massport Authority Citizen Advisory Committee (Mayor’s Representative)- represents the interests of all member communities who are impacted by Massport’s operations (attends monthly (?) meetings; assists residents with concerns in coordination with Mayor’s Office)

- MBTA Advisory Board (Mayor’s Representative)- the MBTA Advisory Board has the authority to review and comment on the MBTA’s annual budget.
