Wakefield’s Health and Human Services Department, the Wake-Up Coalition, the Wakefield Police Department, and Wakefield Public Schools are hosting a free drop-in open house for adults to tour a mock teenager's bedroom, highlighting red flags that may indicate signs of eating disorders, substance use (including vaping), self-harm, and risky online behavior…hidden in plain sight. The community is welcome to visit the Americal Civic Center on Tuesday, December 6 for one of three available sessions: 8 to 10 a.m., 12 to 2 p.m., or 6 to 8 p.m. A typical tour takes about 30 minutes.
Wakefield Public School adjustment counselors, Health and Human Services staff, and school resource officers will provide insight on local trends and tools for talking to young people. Parents will be able to see all of the newest products on the market, including e-cigarettes and vapes; products used to hide drugs and alcohol; and signs of harmful behavior. Visitors will also be able to learn about current social media trends and strategies for monitoring online behavior.
This event is appropriate for all adults with young people in their lives. Resources on mental health, substance use prevention and treatment, and social media will be available. Although this is an adult-only program, supervised young children may accompany an adult. If residents have any questions about the event, they can call 339-219-4034.
