Town of Sandwich News : Legal Notice 2022-2023 Plow Removal

The following are the minimum standards for winter maintenance, per the Board of Selectmen Winter Maintenance Policy, amended 9/29/2016.  All private roads which do not meet these standards will not have winter maintenance services provided for the upcoming season (2022-2023).

-Roadway must be a total of 16 feet wide, consisting of a 12 foot wide traveled way with 2 foot wide drivable shoulders;

-Roadway must be open to the public, with no speed bumps, restrictive gates or other hindrances (vegetation, basketball hoops, etc.) which would interfere with Winter Maintenance Operations;

-Roadway must have an adequate turnaround for winter maintenance equipment which meets the requirements of the Department of Public Works;

-Roadway must be free of defects (ruts/potholes) exceeding 2 inches;

-Roadways must have a visible street sign

The Department of Public Works will perform yearly inspections of all private roadways each spring, and will notify residents by Legal Notice by May 1st  This notice is to inform residents whose private roads currently DO NOT meet minimum standards for snow & ice removal.  The road deficiencies listed below must be repaired. Property abutters are required to reapply BEFORE November 1, 2022 in order to receive Town winter maintenance services THIS winter season (2022-23).
