Volunteers are, and always have been, an integral part of Plymouth Town Government. It is volunteers, elected or appointed, who serve on committees that give of their time and talents and make policies that shape the future of the Town. 

Do you have a special interest in a particular area? Do you have a special talent that you would be willing to share? Would you just like to be involved? Complete the Select Board's Volunteer Application online, if you are interested in serving in one of the following vacancies. 

Select Board-Appointed Positions:

-Climate Action/Net Zero Advisory Committee - Apply by Thursday, February 23, 2023

The mission of the Climate Action/Net Zero Advisory Committee (CANZ) is to identify and advocate for equitable climate adaptation actions and greenhouse gas emission reduction strategies in sectors such as municipal, commercial, and residential buildings, transportation, energy systems, and land use. The CANZ Committee is currently working on Plymouth’s Climate Action/Net Zero Decarbonization Plan, with a strategy for engaging community members and organizations to gather input, as well as outlining the scope of the plan. The CANZ Committee will analyze current emissions, identify initiatives and measures that might be taken to reduce emissions, and set goals and targets.

Subject matter experts and individuals with experience in public health, housing, social and human services, design, development, planning, preservation, sustainability, renewable energy, environmental advocacy, education, and government, are encouraged to apply.

The CANZ Committee typically meets every other Wednesday in the early evening. Meetings are occasionally in-person, hybrid, or virtual depending on the availability of Committee members. 

-Cable Advisory Committee - Apply by Thursday, February 23, 2023

The mission of the Cable Advisory Committee is to review complaints, suggestions and issues raised relative to the cable system, the licensee, and the services provided, and to make recommendations to the Select Board on such matters. The Cable Advisory Committees on an as-needed basis.

-Distinguished Visitors Committee - Apply by Thursday, February 23, 2023

The mission of the Distinguished Visitors Committee is to maintain Plymouth’s sister city relationships and visits from official delegations. The Committee, which is Advisory to the Select Board, is responsible for coordinating the itinerary of distinguished visitors when visiting Plymouth. The DVC may also assist in determining any delegation from Plymouth that is traveling in an official capacity. In addition, the DVC will be the entity responsible for interviewing and selecting the Plymouth students who will be visiting Shichigahama and/or international destinations as part of a sister/twin city relationship.

-Disabilities Commission - Apply by Thursday, February 23, 2023

The Plymouth Disabilities Commission serves as a resource to the Town of Plymouth community to address accessibility, equal rights, and other issues of concern to people with disabilities. The Commission meets every third Thursday of the month at 6:00 p.m. with a virtual option. 

Specifically, in accordance with M.G.L. chapter 40, Section 8J, the Commission is responsible for: Researching local problems of people with disabilities. Advising and assisting municipal officials and employees in ensuring compliance with state and federal laws and regulations that affect people with disabilities. Coordinating or carrying out programs designed to meet the needs of people with disabilities in coordinating with programs of the MA Office on Disability. Reviewing and making recommendations about policies, procedures, services, activities, and facilities of departments, boards, and agencies of the Town of Plymouth as they affect people with disabilities. Providing information, referrals, guidance and technical assistance to individuals, public agencies, businesses, and organizations in all matters pertaining to disabilities. Coordinating activities of other local groups organized for similar purpose.

-Elderly & Disabled Tax Committee - Apply by Thursday, February 23, 2023

The Town of Plymouth has recently established an elderly and disabled taxation fund for the purpose of defraying real estate taxes of elderly and disabled persons of low income. The Elderly and Disabled Taxation Fund would allow Plymouth taxpayers to voluntarily check off, donate, and pledge an amount ($1 minimum) in addition their amount due starting Fiscal Year 2024. The use of the Elderly and Disabled Tax Fund shall be administered by the Committee. The Committee shall be required to adopt rules and regulations to carry out the provisions and consist of the Chairperson of the Board of Assessors, the Town Treasurer and three residents to be appointed by the Select Board.

-Manomet Village Steering Committee - Apply by Thursday, February 23, 2023

The primary mission of the Committee is to assist in the implementation of the Manomet Master Plan and to advocate for the needs of the area. The Committee meets every last Thursday of the month at 6:00 p.m.

Interested residents can submit a Volunteer Application online. 

Residents are also able to submit a letter of interest, outlining the rationale as to why they would like to be appointed. Residents may also submit a resume, although that is not required. Residents may submit their letters of interest and any additional information and questions to Anthony Senesi, Assistant to the Select Board/Town Manager on or before February 23, 2023, at 4:00 pm. either via email at asenesi@plymouth-ma.gov or at the Town Manager's Office at Plymouth Town Hall, 26 Court Street, Plymouth, MA 02360
