Town Administrator James McGrail and Rep. William Straus (10th Bristol) are pleased to share that the Town of Marion will receive an additional $500,000 through the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to assist in funding the town’s ongoing lagoon lining project.
As part of the project, improvements and modifications are being made to the lagoon system at the Marion Wastewater Treatment Plant. Through the project, Lagoon #1 has been drained and biosolid waste has been removed. The final step of the project is for a state-of-the-art liner system to be installed.
The completion of the project will align the Wastewater Treatment Plant and lagoon system with the latest Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and DEP mandates regarding waste storage and treatment.
Work on the project began in 2020, and substantial completion is expected this summer.
Rep. Straus has worked with the town to make available $2 million total in state funding for the project. The town has secured $750,000 of that funding.
"This is an important project for the Town of Marion and will ensure the Wastewater Treatment Plant is in line with the latest standards," Town Administrator McGrail said. "We are continuously grateful to Rep. Straus for working on behalf of our residents and securing this funding, and to the Baker-Polito Administration and Department of Environmental Protection for their support of this project."
