About the Project

The Town is seeking to replace the current Police Station with a building that meets the community's current-day public safety needs. The current building was designed to support a community that was about 70% of the size of the current population, and generated half as many calls in a year as it does now.

Additional Information

To help voters make an educated decision on this ballot question, the Town has created a dedicated web page with a wealth of information on the project, including:

History of the project, including the votes at Town Meetings leading up to the June 6 Special Election
Cost to taxpayers, including a calculator that will help you determine the tax impact to your property
Additional information on the June 6 Special Election, including polling locations, voter registration deadline, absentee ballots, and more

About Vision Zero

Vision Zero is a worldwide advocacy campaign focused on eliminating traffic fatalities and serious injuries while increasing safe, healthy, equitable mobility for all users. A Vision Zero Plan outlines strategies for eliminating traffic-related deaths and serious injuries within Town limits. The Plan also identifies and conceptualizes top-priority safety-related projects for future funding opportunities. Only three Massachusetts communities have adopted Vision Zero Plan. The Vision Zero Planning effort readies Lexington to be the fourth Massachusetts community.

EQUITY OFFICER UPDATE

Diversity, equity, and inclusion information and updates from the Town's Chief Equity Officer

May is Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month – a celebration of Asians and Pacific Islanders in the United States. First introduced in 1977, May was officially designated as Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month in 1992. The month of May was chosen to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States on May 7, 1843, and to mark the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869. The majority of the workers who laid the tracks were Chinese immigrants.

We are fortunate to have a robust and active AAPI community here in Lexington with:

Bangladeshi Americans of Lexington (BLex)
Chinese American Association of Lexington (CAAL)
Chinese Americans of Lexington (CALex)
Indian Americans of Lexington (IAL)
Japanese Support Group of Lexington (JPLex)
Korean-American Organization of Lexington (KOLex).

Please check their websites for programming throughout the month!

Did you know that May is also Jewish Heritage Month?

On April 20, 2006, May was proclaimed to be Jewish American Heritage Month. The month of May was chosen due to the highly successful celebration of the 350th Anniversary of American Jewish History in May 2004, which was organized by the Commission for Commemorating 350 Years of American Jewish History.
