Medicare Scam Targeting Seniors by Phone

The Town's Senior Services Division is warning of a scam where consumers are being contacted by phone by someone saying they are from Medicare. The caller ID appears as "Medicare 800". The scammer is asking people if they want a Medicare card.

If this happens to you, please report the issue to the Senior Medicare Patrol Program.

Recognize the four basic signs of a scam:

-Scammers pretend to be from a familiar organization or agency, like the Social Security Administration. They may email attachments with official-looking logos, seals, signatures, or pictures of employee credentials.

-Scammers mention a problem or a prize. They may say your Social Security number was involved in a crime or ask for personal information to process a benefit increase.

-Scammers pressure you to act immediately. They may threaten you with arrest or legal action.

-Scammers tell you to pay using a gift card, prepaid debit card, cryptocurrency, wire or money transfer, or by mailing cash. They may also tell you to transfer your money to a “safe” account.

Upcoming Conservation Walk on March 18

Woodcock Walk at Dunback Meadow

March 18, 6-8 PM

Dunback Meadow

Join the Citizens for Lexington Conservation on a search for the elusive American woodcock, whose unusual mating behavior provides a rare opportunity to observe this species. In early spring, woodcocks can be found in wet meadows performing their courtship ritual. You'll listen for the male’s distinctive “peent” call while on the ground and then his “wing twitter” as he spirals upward. He will then zigzag back down toward the ground while giving his flight song. This display is repeated, so if you're lucky you will see quite a show.

Meet at the Allen St. entrance to Dunback meadow. Be sure to dress in layers and bring binoculars if you have them.

Rain date: March 19, 6-8pm. If conditions are uncertain, please check the CLC website.
