Coffee and Conversation with Police Chief Michael McLean on Feb. 3

We welcome you to join us for the first, quarterly, coffee and conversation with Police Chief Michael McLean and his team. It’s a great opportunity to meet with our Lexington police force to learn more about them and the many programs they oversee that keep our community safe.

Coffee and conversation will take place at the Lexington Community Center, 39 Marrett Road, on Friday, February 3rd from 10 – 11am.

Upcoming Vaccine Clinics

The Lexington Public Schools will be hosting vaccination clinics at least once a month through through June 2023. Get vaccinations for COVID and Flu, as well as "catch up" vaccinations - TDAP, MMR or Meningitis. 

These clinics are available to anyone in the Lexington community. 

These clinics will be held at the Lexington Public Schools Central Administration Office, 146 Maple Street (enter via Lowell St.) 

Clinics in January and February: 

- Friday, January 27 - 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
- Friday, February 10 - 9: 00 AM to 5:00 PM

Safe Schools: An Ally's Guide for Reducing Homophobia & Transphobia, Event on Feb. 6

Join the Lexington High School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) & School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) for a presentation on Reducing Homophobia & Transphobia.

Presented by the Greater Boston Federation of Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG), whose mission is to provide support for families with LGBTQ youth. 

During this 90-minute presentation, the panel will share their personal experiences, talk about what is and isn’t helpful and discuss easy ways we all can help. 

Monday, Feb. 6 from 7 until 9 PM

This forum will be virtual, with a brief SHAC business meeting 7:00-7:15 PM followed by the presentation.

The forum contents are suitable for all K-12 parents, educators, students, and community members.

Help Plan for Lexington's Open Spaces and Recreation Areas: Share Your Feedback by Jan. 30

The Town is updating its plan for open spaces and recreational areas and wants community input. The Conservation Division and Recreation & Community Programs Department are leading the effort and encourage residents to share their ideas and opinions on how these spaces should be used and maintained in the future. 

This is an opportunity for residents to have a say in the future of our community's open spaces and recreation areas.

Planning Board Proposing Zoning for Multi-Family Housing & Mixed-Use; Public Hearing on Feb. 1

After a successful housing workshop last October, the Planning Board has hosted nine public work sessions/presentations to develop a zoning proposal for multi-family housing to comply with a new state law. 

The Planning Board will present their zoning proposal at a public hearing on Wednesday, February 1 at 6:00 pm on Zoom.

The Board’s zoning proposal is for a new Village Overlay District that will permit multi-family housing and some mixed use in the following areas:

- East Lexington along Massachusetts Avenue
- Bedford Street/Worthen Road
- Bedford Street/Reed Street
- Marrett Road/Waltham Street
- Marrett Road/Spring Street
- Concord Avenue/Waltham Street
- Lexington Center
- Bedford Street/Hartwell Avenue
- Hartwell Avenue
- Maguire Road

A zoning overlay district provides additional zoning opportunities for properties in the overlay district. No specific development projects are proposed.

The Planning Board’s zoning proposal will be brought forward to Annual Town Meeting, which begins on March 20, 2023. 

Local Business / Non-Profit Recovery Grant Program

The Town of Lexington is offering a grant program to local businesses and non-profit organizations that have been impacted by the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic. The Select Board has authorized $500,000 through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding to be available to the Lexington business community.

We are now accepting applications for the second round of ARPA Small Business and Non-Profit Grants.

- Businesses that have not yet received a grant are eligible for up to $25,000.
- Businesses that have already been awarded a grant can apply for up to $15,000.
- Non-Profit Businesses can apply up to $10,000 for both first-time applicants and those who have already received an award.

Town Officials Celebrate Groundbreaking of the New Lexington Police Headquarters

Elected/appointed officials, Town staff, and the Town's consultants joined on January 19 for a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the construction of the new Lexington Police Headquarters.

If you're driving past the construction on Mass. Ave., you'll see quite a bit of progress has been made. The new building is anticipated to be finished by mid-2024.

Winter Birding, Dunback Meadow on Jan. 21

Saturday January 21, 8-10:00 AM

During this quiet time at Dunback Meadow, there is the possibility of viewing unusual birds, such as owls (Great Horned Owl, Northern Saw-whet Owl, and Barred Owl), Common Redpolls and Rough-legged Hawks. Our residents – Black-capped Chickadees, Tufted Titmice, Downy Woodpeckers and Blue Jays – will be there as well. Wear boots if there is deep snow, as walking can be difficult. Beginners and children are welcome. Rain or snow will cancel. Meet at the entrance on Allen St. Cosponsored with Brookline Bird Club.

The Lexington Office of Public Health will update weekly COVID-19 case numbers each Friday. The data represented on the dashboard DOES NOT include at-home test results. The data only represents results of PCR and antigen tests verified through the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

Test Kits Available

Free at-home rapid COVID-19 test kits are available at Town buildings across Lexington. Town buildings received a new shipment of tests that expire in August 2023. Old test kits that were picked up prior to mid-January 2023 are set to expire on January 26, 2023. Be sure to check the date on your test kit before using.

You can pick up a test at the following locations:

- Town Office Building (Health Office) - 1625 Massachusetts Avenue
- Fire Department - 45 Bedford Street
- Police Department - 173 Bedford Street
- Community Center - 39 Marrett Road
- Visitors Center - 1875 Massachusetts Avenue
