Warmer weather is here, and we have a number of upcoming events to get everyone outdoors and thinking about the many ways to get around town without a car! 

This upcoming weekend, and into next week, you can break out your bike, and your walking shoes, for some exciting events. There are more events throughout May and into the summer. Visit LexBikeWalkBus.org for details.

Bike Commuting Basics

Saturday, April 30, 10-11AM - Virtual 

Do you aspire to start using your bike more often for your work commute or milk run? In this session we'll cover what you need to know to ride more safely, comfortably and joyfully. The focus will be on practical tips to help make biking your first choice of transportation more often!

We’ll cover:

-Choosing the right bike 

-How to arrive at work still looking sharp

-Helpful gear for carrying items for varying weather, and night riding 

-How and where to lock your bike

-Basic bike maintenance

-Rules for the road & more!

Smart Cycling (Ages 16+)

Saturday, April 30, 1-4:30PM at Lexington Community Center

Gain skill and confidence in bicycling! Learn rules of the road, safety tips, practice handling skills, understand best bike fit, helmet fit, basics of bike maintenance, and enjoy an escorted on-bike road ride with others looking to build their cycling confidence! Bring helmet, bike, and closed-toe shoes. Class is led by a seasoned Certified Cycling Instructor. Registration required. $49 Res/$59 Non-Res

WalkMass Challenge Kick Off Event

Saturday, April 30, 1PM-3PM at Center Track, 90 Worthen Road

Join Lexington Recreation & Human Services to kick off the Walk Massachusetts Challenge by Walking the Center Track! This Community event is open to people of all ages and abilities. DJ Julio, Prizes, Fun Games, Free Swag! FREE. Register online

11th Annual National Walk, Bike & Roll to School Day!

Wednesday, May 4 - all schools

Leave the car at home and join friends and family on a joyful walk or ride to and from school! Interested in joining or creating a Walking School Bus or Bike Train? Fill out our interest form to be connected with others and to get help getting started. You can also reach out to your School's PTO Safe Routes to School Coordinator or contact our transportation office for assistance!

BONUS: Walking to school will also benefit Lexington seniors if you are signed up for the Walk Massachusetts Challenge.
