Town Of Lancaster - Happy Summer! The Fun Is Just Beginning. Thursday Evening Free Artreception At The Library--Treats Too

Happy Solstice!

It’s officially the longest day of the year. A time to celebrate Summah! What better way to celebrate the season than with fresh local produce. You need to come by and take a peek at bounty coming along in The Get Dirty Intergenerational Gardens. They are magnificent this year if I do say so myself. The result of our great coordinators, Shelia Casey and Sandy Reardon, who keep us organized and thriving and the many families and seniors gardening. Gardens are open to view, get ideas and ‘dirt therapy’. Peas are in and soon we harvest our potato tires! Please don’t nibble (tempting as it is) and close the gate behind you--we don’t need those groundhogs coming for lunch.

Isn’t life supposed to be slow and easy in the summer? Not in Lancaster! We have lots going on this week and coming up. Mark your calendars.

You may have noticed all the spring/summer cleaning going on in the Center. We are getting there! We hope to be spiffed up soon. Thanks to the Friends members Deb and Gary, Denise and Jean and Phil, Kathy and the Mallettes for all their time, hard work and expertise. Thanks to those who have volunteered to come get painting underway. Everything looks better with fresh paint! If you have painting skills and want to meet Friends and neighbors please call.

Thursday, June 23rd 5-7:30, you are invited to a Free Art Reception for Best of Show artist Jeff Lacovelli at the Library. The reception is this Thursday evening. Meet the artist, enjoy some delectable light fare and admire his amazing work. You will understand why the judges chose his work. I have a bias--no I did not judge, but his parents are from Lancaster. If you know the Lacovellis you will understand why Jeff is such a nice, talented man. Come join us, free!

We expect to be back to our Summer Outdoor BBQ catered by Sandee’s on the 29th. We are requiring advance RSVP by Monday, June 27, at 9 a.m. Call 978-733-4076. You may pay ahead tomorrow or Monday $5 cash or use our handy UniPay link on our page. If you pay Wednesday, please bring exact change. We start at noon on the 29th, and it will be great to see you!

This is a great year for local fresh strawberries! There is nothing like them. I find strawberry picking to be great therapy, try Cordelia’s formerly Indian Head. I hear the season is almost over. If you prefer the old fashioned way of buying them, our local farm stands have some great ones. Try Harpers on 117, Rota’s and Mudgett’s on Chase Hill. Talk about the taste of summer.

Speaking of Strawberries, don’t forget the Strawberry Festival Sunday details here. Next to Memorial Day, the Festival is one of my favorite traditions in Lancaster. Held at the First Church since 1891, those yummy shortcakes are a seasonal treat that supports the Church’s good works. They held a fabulous party on their lawn by the fire pit yesterday, end of school--smores too! Your sweet treat helps continue fun in our community. That is a win-win!

I would be remiss if I did not plug the `Nashoba Rock and Brews Fest Saturday, June 25th  at the Fairgrounds. The Carr Family Foundation does a lot for the town, and what better way to support their good work than by enjoying a brew and some great music. Get your tickets here!

Our trip next week, July 1st, to the State House is currently full, but others are following. If you would like to be on the waiting list for the State House tour and lunch please let us know. We may have an opening. Thank you Representative Kilcoyne and Senator Cronin for making this happen. Should be a fantastic trip!

Don’t forget to squeeze in your fitness classes over here Friday and Saturday or a quick trip to the backstage gym. It is a great way to rationalize the extra shortcake or brew.

Hope to see you soon,

Alix
