Definition

Performs general, routine custodial duties, to include dusting, mopping, vacuuming,
cleaning restrooms, and restocking paper and soap supplies.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Performs a variety of routine and respective tasks that may occasionally be carried out independently but with work checked during progress and upon completion for
satisfactory performance.

Must be able to communicate proficiently with office staff and department heads.

Continuous physical effort demanded in operating cleaning equipment, standing and lifting or carrying equipment, tools and materials while performing duties under varying weather conditions.

Works under the direction of the Director of Public Works, facility manger or designee.

Examples Of Work

Participates in the general cleaning and maintenance of the town buildings including but not limited to bathrooms, floors, trash, carpets and glass; along with outside walkways and stairways.
Keeps building and property in clean and orderly condition.
Performs routine maintenance activities.
Performs heavy cleaning duties.
Sweeps, mops, scrubs, or vacuums floors.
Gathers and empties trash.
Scrubs, sanitizes, and supplies restroom facilities.
Dusts furniture, walls, and equipment
Cleans polishes fixtures and equipment
Shampoos or steams carpets and rugs
Strip and buff floors
Reports major repairs required promptly to the Custodial Manager or Director of
Facilities.
Assists in snow removal of the Town buildings and insures that walkways and stairways
are salted and safe for pedestrian travel. Overtime hours are required as needed.
Other related duties as needed.

Desirable Qualifications

High school education or equivalent required.
Knowledge of cleaning methods or procedures
Ability to understand and follow oral instructions.
Class D drivers license requires
