Town Of Hanover News : Hanover's New Police Lieutenant and Sergeant Pinned at Ceremony September 15, 2022

The Town of Hanover is pleased to announce the recent promotions of Sergeant David Zemotel to Lieutenant and Officer Sean Mackenzie to Sergeant. A pinning ceremony was held on September 13, 2022, at the Hanover Police Department.

Sergeant Sean Mackenzie

Sergeant Mackenzie graduated from Hanover High School and enlisted in the United States Navy in 2005. He proudly served his country as a Military Police Officer and Armorer while earning E-4 Third Class Petty Officer status before being honorably discharged in 2010.

In 2011 he began his law enforcement career with the Hanover Police Department, accepting a full-time appointment. He worked as a patrolman on the 12-8 shift for approximately four years before moving to the 4-12 shift where he continued his uniformed patrol duties and motorcycle patrol. He has served as a valued member of the Department’s Field Training program which carries a great deal of responsibility in educating and mentoring newly hired officers. More recently, Sergeant Mackenzie was appointed as the department’s Fish and Game Officer.

Sergeant Mackenzie has already started in his new role as patrol supervisor where he will be a valued member of our command staff going forward.

Lieutenant David Zemotel

Lieutenant Zemotel Graduated from Hanover High School and began his career in public safety as a Dispatcher in 1989. In 1991, he was appointed as a Special Police Officer for Hanover Police Department before being appointed full-time in 1997. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Bridgewater State College and a Master's Degree from Western New England College.

In 2015, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant at which time he assumed the role of patrol supervisor on the 4-12 shift. Lieutenant Zemotel has served the department in a number of different capacities including department Firearms Instructor and Firearms Licensing Officer while also being an MPTC certified firearms instructor for the Plymouth Police Academy. More recently Lieutenant Zemotel has overseen the Hanover Police Department’s effort in creating an Officer Wellness Program which will benefit our members and the community for years to come.

Lieutenant Zemotel has already started in his new role and will be heavily involved in administrative and operational duties as an executive command staff member.
