Project Overview:

Construction of a combined public safety building commenced in December 2020 on the site of the former Town Hall at 26 Bryant Street. The new building will house the staff and equipment of Fire, Police, and Dispatch departments. The new combined Public Safety Building will replace two older Town buildings: Police Station at 600 High Street (built in 1962) and the Fire Station at 436 Washington Street (built in 1930). The new building is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2022.

What to expect September 3, 2022 (Saturday) through September 9, 2022 (Friday):

-The project site remains closed to the public.

-Weekend work: On Saturday, Commodore Labor Foreman, A.J. Welch will be installing curbing along Union Place. N.E. Decks & Floor will continue to epoxy flooring, and Manganaro will continue installation of gypsum wallboard ceilings on both the first and second floors.

-HVAC contractors will continue to install valves and piping for the induction units located on the second floor of the Police Station. They will also work on insulating the induction unit piping and installing chiller piping.

-Sheet Metal contractors will be installing induction units in EOC and training areas.

-The fire protection and sprinkler subcontractor will install the stair #2 standpipe.

-Plumbing will finish gas piping at RTU, and weld gas piping in the gas meter.

-Electrical contractors will continue working on electrical distribution, install Fire Alarm devices on the first floor of the Police Station, install lighting in the basement, and install finishes on the first floor of the Police Station.

-Work will be done on the interior cold formed metal framing, dense glass taping and sanding in the basement, as well as other miscellaneous areas throughout the Public Safety Building.

-Painters will continue to paint walls in the Apparatus Bay.

-Work will be done on grinding and parging walls in Stair #1, setting SS Security Island at the garage ramp, installing insulation at the garage ramp, installing bottom reinforcing at interior the Sallyport, and forming the security island.

-The Site Contractor will be installing and compacting new subgrade at Bryant Street & Union Place. The asphalt binder coarse is scheduled for Friday, September.

-Work will continue on the installation of ceramic tile on the second floor of the Police and Fire Stations.

-Work will continue with the installation of ACT grid in cell block area and installing the ACT ceiling in EOC and training area.

-Millwork will be received and distributed, and murphy beds will be assembled.

-N.E. Decks & Floors will continue the installation of epoxy flooring on the first floor of the Police Station and shotblast east side Apparatus Bay.

-Permanent Power was supplied to the building on July 28, 2022. The generator is due to arrive end of September.

Public Viewing Area:

If you want to stop by to check out the progress, stand by the picnic table outside the north entrance to Town Hall. This spot provides a great view into the project site and is outside of the project boundaries. Worth a visit!

-The site is closed Monday September 5

-Tuesday through Friday: 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM
