Citizens Police Academy Scheduled
The Police Department is now accepting applications for the Citizens Police Academy which will begin on January 25th and is scheduled to meet for 10 weeks on Wednesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Police Department, 249 George Ryder Road.
The Academy is an opportunity for residents to learn about and achieve a greater understanding of the day to day workings of the Police Department through a series of classroom sessions integrated with hands-on applications of various aspects of police work including traffic enforcement, patrol procedures, crash investigation and reconstruction, use of force/firearms, interview and interrogations, and others.
Space is limited to 15 participants. Applications are available online. Don't wait - the Academy always fills up fast!
Crowell Road Work This Saturday
Work on the sewer/stormwater project on Crowell Road will continue this Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to take advantage of the good weather forecast after this week of rain. Detours and Police details will be in place to divert traffic around the affected areas.

if the rainy weather kept you away from First Night this year, you still have the opportunity to enjoy some of the entertainment from the night.

New Programs for the New Year
It's a new year and the Council on Aging and the Center for Active Living are hosting new programs to get you out of the house and keep you active and engaged.
Every Monday and Friday meet the Walking Group at the Community Center at 12:45 p.m. for a 30 minute walk around the neighborhood. No registration needed just wear your walking shoes and bring your water bottle.
On Tuesday, January 10th at 2 p.m. the Photography Group will gather at the Center for Active Living for those interested in learning how to take better pictures. The group will meet on the second Tuesday of every month.
On Wednesday, January 11th indulge your sweet tooth with a round of Candy Bar Bingo at the Center for Active Living at 1 p.m. You need to bring a full size candy bar to play and you'll have to reserve a spot at the table by calling 508-945-5190.
On Thursday, January 12th meet in the Dining Room at the Center for Active Living at 2 p.m. to have a cup of coffee and share your stories of Chatham's past for a session of "Chatham Remember When..." This will be a regular gathering on the third Wednesday of the month. Stop by and reminiscence with us!
Holiday Lights Recycling through January 31st
Don't throw away that half-lit string of lights - recycle them! Barnstable County's Cape Cod Cooperative Extension and AmeriCorps Cape Cod holiday lights recycling program continues through January. You can drop off most holiday lights (rope, garland, mini, LED) in the designated bin at the Transfer Station. Sorry, lights attached to trees or other fixtures such as lighted angels, stars, tc. cannot be accepted. The lights will be stripped down as as much material as possible will be recycled.
Shrink Wrap Recycling
Boats tightly swaddled in shrink wrap are a common sight in marinas and service yards around Cape Cod. Shrink wrap is practical as it protects against rain, sun, dirt and corrosion but like plastic bags, it's a single-use material.
To help take this used plastics out of our environment Barnstable County's Cooperative Extension, Woods Hole Sea Grant and AmeriCorp Cape Cod have partnered with Cape Cod towns, including Chatham, to divert tons of boat shrink wrap from the waste stream and to recycle it into new product for five years.
The Boat Shrink Wrap Recycling Program allows Cape residents to bring used, clean shrink wrap to transfer stations in Bourne, Chatham, Dennis, Eastham, and Wellfleet free of charge generall from April through June. Details for the 2023 shrink wrap collection will be released in early spring. For more information visit the Sea Grant website.
Tuesday Talk at the Atwood
Join the Atwood Museum on January 17th for the first Tuesday Talks virtual lecture of 2023. Jeni Wheeler will share her story and the Family Table Collaborative's mission to ensure nutritional security on Cape Cod. Jen's story is sure to be an entertaining and educational glimpse into how healthier people can create healthier communities.
Proceeds from this event will be split between the Family Table Collaborative and the Atwood Museum.
Tickets are $10 and available by reservation. The lecture begins promptly at 5 p.m.
