I was very saddened to hear of Jeanne Kangas’ passing in the early morning hours of January 10, 2023. Jeanne was born in Boxborough and lived here all her life. I remember her stories of attending school in a one-room schoolhouse with her class of four students, her escapades with her friends around town and her eventual rise through Town politics to be the first woman elected to the then “Board of Selectmen.” Jeanne loved this town and its citizens. She worked tirelessly for many causes through her participation on and off official Town committees. If you had an issue that Jeanne agreed with, you were practically guaranteed success because her influence was so great. She loved history, gardening, cooking, politics and most of all, Boxborough. To the end she kept saying “Boxborough Strong.” Rest in peace my friend. We will all miss you terribly!
