It's finally feeling like winter this weekend, and it looks like there may be a little snow in the week ahead as well.  The kids are back in school after their February break, and things at the library are returning to a more typical rhythm after much excitement last week.  Please take a moment to read about the programs and happenings this week and join us when you can!  And stop by our website for other news and events.

Edible Perennial Gardening and Landscaping

Tuesday, February 28 from 6:30 - 8:00 pm

Join us in the Woodbury Room as naturalist and landscaper John Root explains how to establish and maintain a variety of familiar and unusual perennials including trees, shrubs, vines, canes, and herbaceous plants for abundant harvests of fruits, nuts, and vegetables.

This is the second event in our Gardens & Gardening series, made possible by the Friends of the Jones Libraries. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Amherst Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. 50+ Job Seekers Networking Group

Wednesday, March 1 from 9:30 - 11:30 am

Are you a 50+ job seeker? Build your job search tool kit with this online networking group!  This week's topic is Resumes - Part 1. This topic will be covered in next week's evening session as well. Attend either morning (1st and 3rd Wednesday) or evening (2nd and 4th Wednesday) sessions - whatever works best for you. Job seekers can join the group at any time.

Sing with Your Baby

Wednesday, March 1 from 10:30 - 11:30 am

Our spring session of Sing with Your Baby will begin Wednesday, March 1st. Join Wendy in the Woodbury Room to share songs and fingerplays, followed by time for children to explore musical instruments and socialize. This program is recommended for children ages 0 - 5 and their caregivers. We will meet every Wednesday through April 26th.

National Park Service Lunchtime Lecture

Wednesday, March 1 from 12:00 - 1:00 pm

Zoom in from anywhere for this weekly virtual lunchtime lecture series during March, focusing on National Park Service units here in Massachusetts.  This week's presentation is from the Frederick Law Olmsted National Historic Site entitled "Olmsted's Life and Legacy". The program will be recorded and all registrants will receive the recording via email. So, please feel free to register even if you can't attend the live event! Learn more and register.

Author Event and Book Launch

Saturday, March 4 at 11:00 am
@ Munson Memorial Library

Join us at the Munson Memorial Library for this rescheduled book launch! Local author Thomas Johnson discusses his new book about early public libraries in New England, Common Place: The Public Library, Civil Society, and Early American Values. The Munson Memorial Library in South Amherst served as one of the case studies, and the lone branch library, in his research.

This program is co-sponsored by the Jones Library & Branches and Levellers Press.

Words Together:  A Poetry Workshop

Saturday, March 4 from 4:00 - 5:00 pm

Students from the Amherst College Poetry Club lead a poetry workshop for teens ages 11 to 17.This is part of an ongoing series that will meet regularly and culminate in a spoken word performance at Amherst College. Words Together meets most Saturdays. Please email us for more information and to register.

Reading the Classics

Our virtual classics book discussions continue! Moderated by Amherst College professor Ilan Stavans, this series is a collaboration of the Jones Library, the New York Public Library, and Restless Books, and together we explore various world literature classics. Join us via Zoom on Tuesday, March 14 at 7:00 pm to discuss this month's selection of five poems by Emily Dickinson. Learn more and register.
