Long distance hiker Arlette Laan, of Lowell, recently became the first woman -- and sixth person ever -- to traverse all of our country's National Scenic Trails, a 17,830-mile feat that took her nearly two decades to complete. Laan will present highlights of her adventures from all 11 trails: Appalachian National Scenic Trail; Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail; Continental Divide National Scenic Trail; North Country National Scenic Trail; Ice Age National Scenic Trail; Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail; Natchez Trace National Scenic Trail; Florida National Scenic Trail; Arizona National Scenic Trail; New England National Scenic Trail; and Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail.
IN PERSON: 1-on-1 Tech Help

The Tewksbury Public Library is now offering 1-on-1 tech help to seniors. Drop-in on Tuesdays, from 5:30pm to 8:30pm, or Fridays, from 2:30pm to 4pm. Visit the second-floor Reference Desk to check in. Sessions will last up to 30 minutes. No registration required. First come, first served. The library’s technology volunteer Renee can provide assistance in the following areas: smartphone basics; tablet basics; basic use of hardware and software for desktops/laptops; email; and guidance on some of the library’s digital services, such as Libby (free eBooks and eAudiobooks). Please bring your device with you, if you can. Please note Renee is a library school student, not a technology professional, but she hopes to be able to provide you with some answers to your tech questions and solutions to your tech problems.

The Brill Building is located at 1619 Broadway in New York City along with other neighborhood buildings that housed many composers and publishers in the late 50’s and 60’s and whose recordings have become known as the Brill Building Sound. Explore the many songwriters (including Burt Bacharach, Carole King, Neil Sedaka) who are responsible for creating the extraordinary soundtrack not only defined an era but whose influence endures five decades later. Led by Vinnie Bruno, a 60s’ Rock Historian. He retired as Director of First Year Programs at LaGuardia Community College (City University of New York). Bruno holds an MPA from Baruch College and, as an adjunct professor for 25 years, taught courses in numerous disciplines including Humanities, Business and Mathematics.

The Massachusetts Library Collaborative's 50+ Job Seekers Group meets on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month, from 9:30am to 11:30am, via Zoom. If you are unemployed and actively looking, underemployed, seeking a new career direction, re-entering the job market after a long employment gap, or recently retired and looking for your "Encore Career", this networking group program is perfect for you! Remember, 85% of jobs are found through networking! Join us in a professional forum for networking with peers in a safe and comfortable environment conducive to developing new relationships and developing skills and strategies to help in your career transition. Each meeting features a new topic. Meetings include a presentation and hands-on workshop on topics relevant to career transition, guest speakers, access to hiring managers, small group breakout rooms to network, and 1-on-1 coaching guidance. Participating on a regular basis will give job seekers the many tools and strategies needed for a successful job search. Each biweekly meeting is facilitated by Deborah Hope, MBA, PCIC, an experienced executive career coach.

We’ll discuss different feeder types, the best seed to put in them, the birds they’ll attract, how to outsmart squirrels, and other ways to encourage birdlife into your yard and community. Led by Douglas Lowry, the Adult Education Specialist for Mass Audubon's Southeast Region. He's also a Senior Field Instructor for the National Outdoor Leadership School.

VIRTUAL: Broadway Ballads & Showstoppers (*RR)

For well over a century, musical theater has been at the forefront of the performing arts not just in America but around the globe. The vast majority of memorable songs by composers such as Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Richard Rodgers, and Irving Berlin were written for the Broadway stage and their music continues to live on in new productions both here and in hundreds of smaller community theaters. By means of video clips (including a number of rare original cast performances), this series will allow us to revisit many of these outstanding numbers that continue to enthrall audiences world-wide. Part 1 of this series will include highlights from several notable works such as “Oklahoma!," “The Phantom of the Opera," “Anything Goes," and “Girl Crazy." We will also have a chance to learn more about the origin of these shows and the casting and production decisions that made them a success. Led by Rich Knox, a retired school teacher and administrator, who lectures on musicals, films, and opera to libraries across the country.
