Library Card - Best. Deal. Ever.

September is Library Card Sign-Up Month, a time when the Tempe Public Library joins the American Library Association and libraries nationwide to remind everyone of the value of a library card.

Your Tempe Public Library card is your passport to discovering and exploring at your library and online. With you library card, you can access books, eBooks, movies and music 24/7, help your kids do better in school, explore your family tree, learn new job and computer skills, go to storytime with your kids, get free admission to museums and cultural centers across Arizona and so much more. The amount of information and entertainment available at your fingertips is virtually limitless, and it's free. One card, so many benefits.

Adventure Packs

Explore Arizona's Great Outdoors

The library now has Adventure Packs! These themed backpacks are intended to make outdoor experiences accessible to everyone by providing backpacks, books and equipment to explorers of ages. The library will release a new set of themed backpacks each week in September, with accompanying programs for each of the themes. There are separate backpacks for kids (with age-appropriate items) and adults in each theme. Each pack will contain supplies to explore each subject, including guides, books, equipment, tools and information on additional resources to help you explore Arizona's great outdoors.

The Adventure Packs can be put on hold and checked out for three weeks, just like a book. The packs must be returned in-person to the Answers Desk and not through the automated book returns. Note that a fee of $50 will be charged if any items in the pack or the backpack itself is lost or damaged.

Mr. Kat? Plays Family

Mr. Kat?—a curmudgeon and recent retiree—finds his only solace during his daily walks, where he wonders how his life went wrong and daydreams about getting a dog (which his wife won’t allow). During one of these walks, he is approached by a young woman. She calls herself Mie, and invites him to join her business Happy Family, where employees act as part-time relatives or acquaintances for clients in need, for whatever reason, if only for a day.
