Read Beyond the Beaten Path

You and your children are invited to attend fund programs and events at the Library this summer, built around the theme: Read Beyond the Beaten Path. We will explore all kinds of topics like camping, hiking, magic, and more.

Storytimes:

Storytimes will run from July 5 – August 10. Registration is required to make sure enough crafts are prepared, so call the library or email douglasmapubliclibrary@gmail.com to sign up! Here’s the weekly schedule:

-Mondays at 10am: Ages 18 months to 3 years old.

-Mondays at 1pm: Ages 3 – 5.

-Tuesdays at 6pm: Ages 4 – 7.

If you have multiple kids crossing age ranges, talk to Deb and she will work with you to figure out the best time slot for your family!

Main Events:

The Douglas Cultural Council and Friends of the Library have sponsored a lineup of exciting events happening on Wednesday mornings at 10:30 oriented toward school-aged children. More details about these events can be found on our calendar, but here’s the run-down:

-July 6: Kickoff – Storyteller Davis Bates – “The Places You’ll Go: A Song & Story Celebration”

-July 13: Animal Adventures – Come meet the animals and hear interesting stories about them! There might even be some petting…

-July 20: Ed the Wizard – Easy Magic for Camping and Hiking!

-July 27: Everything Birds! – Make a pinecone bird feeder and birdhouse! Call or email Deb to register for this one so we make sure we have enough birdhouses.

-August 3: Pumpernickel Puppets presents Sir George and the Dragon.

-August 10: Picnic Finale – Bring a blanket and a picnic lunch. We will have lemonade, punch, and chips. Enjoy water games. Get prizes.

Reading Incentives for Introverts:

Just want to read? Deb’s got you covered. Come in and pick up a packet to encourage your children to read (and scavenger hunt) over the summer. There are rewards to be earned for each hour read, and kids get to track their achievements on the Library’s wall!

Storywalks:

We will set up a storywalk at Douglas Orchard and Farm again this year on July 5 and change the stories every couple of weeks.

“Read Beyond the Beaten Path” is sponsored by your local library, the Massachusetts Library System, the Boston Bruins, and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. Performers have been funded by the Douglas Cultural Council. Crafts have been sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
