Announce Volunteer Job Opportunity for the Annual Book & Media Sale Chair
Do you like being around books? Do you have talents and organizational skills to manage a primary fundraiser that supports the Friends of the Shrewsbury Public Library’s mission? Consider donating your talents to the Friends!
Volunteer Position:
Friends of the Shrewsbury Public Library (SPL) Book Sale Chair [2-year term on the Friends Board of Directors.] Volunteer will shadow current Book Sale Chair for training during 2022 sale. In 2023, volunteer will assume book sale Chair with limited support from current Chair.
Purpose of the Position:
Plan, manage and implement activities and processes over several months preparing for the October book sale.
Responsibilities:
-Coordinate book sale dates and logistics with Library staff
-Create and communicate sale information to Public Relations on Friends Board of Directors
-Manage volunteer recruitment and scheduling with support from staff and board members
-Manage book donation scanning, sorting, and boxing of items throughout the year
-Facilitate post-sale recycling of unsold materials
-Attend monthly Friends Board of Directors meetings the first Wednesday of the month
Qualifications:
-Retail business managing skills a plus
-Knowledge/Experience with Sign Up Genius online scheduling and MS Office a plus
-Detailed oriented and organized
-Ability to work efficiently with minimal guidance and supervision
-Customer friendly attitude; enjoys working with the public, SPL staff and Friends Board
-Must be available and present during majority of the event
Physical Specifications
-Moderate physical effort required to perform most duties
-Frequent periods of standing preceding and during the sale
-During months/ weeks preceding sale, participate in scanning, sorting and boxing book/media which requires heavy lifting and pushing carts within the building with assistance from the custodian.
