Pembroke Public Library Book Club

For our September meeting the PPL Book Club is reading Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr, an inventive novel that brings together an unforgettable cast of dreamers and outsiders from past, present, and future to offer a vision of survival against all odds. Yoga
Every Wednesday at 10 a.m.
Led by Barbara Ward and other instructors from the YogaConnection of Plymouth. Open to all levels. A single-class drop-in is $12 and a four-class registration is $45 ($35 for Friends members). Friends members can also purchase an eight-class punch ticket for $80, which is valid for three months.

Love, Hope, and Connection Through Song
Thursday, September 22nd at 6:30 p.m.
Pembroke musician Dave Kelly will perform a collection of songs focusing on feelings of love, hope, and connection.
Dave has been playing around the South Shore for the past two decades. He says: "I've had a few experiences this year that have forced me to look inward to what is important; for me that is connection with others. I've put together a song list of some of my favorites, John Prine, Kate Wolf, Warren Zevon, Towns Van Zandt, Guy Clark, and a few others, that help to express these feelings." This concert is free and open to all.
Rug Hooking for Beginners
Wednesdays September 21st & 28th and October 5th from 6:15-7:45 p.m.
Looking for a new creative outlet? Come learn to rug hook! This simple yet satisfying craft uses wool cloth strips pulled through a foundation cloth with a handheld hook to make beautiful rugs, wall hangings, and other decorative furnishings. In three sessions, you will learn the basics and be well on your way. All supplies are provided. Led by local instructor Carol Smith. Space is limited; please sign up through our online calendar. The life of American music icon Elvis Presley, from his childhood to becoming a rock and movie star in the 1950s while maintaining a complex relationship with his manager, Colonel Tom Parker. Starring Austin Butler and Tom Hanks. 159 minutes. Rated PG-13.
Raising the Dead: Finding Clues to Ancestors from Headstones, Family Plots, and Burial Records
Tuesday, September 27th from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Cemetery records can offer important clues to understanding the lives of those who came before us. In his presentation, American Ancestors Chief Genealogist David Allen Lambert—author of A Guide to Massachusetts Cemeteries (now in its third edition)—will discuss how headstones, family plots, and burial documents can shed new light on your ancestor’s life. Teen Take & Make: Keychains
Available in September while supplies last
We know teens are busy with school, work, chores, and more so we're giving you an opportunity to craft on your own time. Pick up a Craft Kit in the YA Lounge and color your own Wooden Keychain. Designs include monsters, sea creatures, and more!
Storytime
Mondays and Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.
Toddlers (ages 2-5) and their caregivers can enjoy an interactive storytime with songs, dances, games, and stories that encourage language development and social skills. Each themed storytime is followed by a craft.
Baby Lapsit
Thursday, September 8th from 10:30-11:00 a.m.
Designed for babies and toddlers from 6 to 24 months, Lapsits are a great chance for caregivers to bond with their child while learning new rhymes and stories to share. Each program includes stretches, music, a story, and more followed by an open play time.
Anime Club
Thursday, September 8th from 4:00-5:30 p.m.
Ages 11-15 are invited to watch anime, snack, and socialize. September's meeting will feature Hayao Miyazaki's classic film My Neighbor Totoro (rated G, runtime 1 hour, 26 minutes). Attendees will also get to tell us what they want from future Anime Clubs to help us pick shows, snacks, and other activities.
LEGO Club
Tuesday, September 13th from 4-5 p.m.
Kids ages 5+ are welcome to visit and build with the library LEGOs. Bring your neighbors, big siblings, and school friends! LEGO Club is designed to give kids a safe, creative environment in which they can freely build with LEGOs, interact with peers, and express themselves.
Puppy Dog Tales
Thursday, September 15th from 4:15-5:00 p.m.
Readers of all ages may read to a certified therapy dog to develop their literacy and presentation skills as well as build confidence and self-esteem. Our dogs and trainers provide a supportive environment to practice reading aloud. This is a drop-in event.
Block Party Playtime
Monday and Tuesday September 19th and 20th at 10:30 a.m.
This is a special program for kids ages 1-7 to use creativity, imagination, and teamwork. Little ones can grow and play with all kinds of blocks; use your hands, carefully stack pieces together, knock them down, and do it all over again! Other items such as puzzles, play dough, and a pop-up tunnel will be available for all. Playtime will take place in lieu of storytime this week.
Baby Music Makers
Thursday, September 22nd from 10:30-11:00 a.m.
Enhance your little one’s love of music during this 30-minute bonding time, with songs, dance, and movement games to excite one’s budding musician. Babies and toddlers ages 0-2 with a caregiver are welcome to drop in and join us!
