New At-Home Voting Technology For Voters With Disabilities

From: City Of Westfield
October 18, 2022

Available for the first time in the upcoming election, Westfield, Massachusetts is offering an accessible option for voters with disabilities to access, mark, and print their ballot from home, using their home computer. In the past, voters who could not see, hold, or mark a paper mail ballot, or vote at the polls due to a disability were not able to vote privately and independently. Deployed in over 4,000 elections across 29 states since 2008, this is the first time this technology, called OmniBallot from Democracy Live, is being used in Westfield, MA. To view a demonstration of the accessible absentee balloting technology voters can watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdi-Ge54TkM&t=3s

Voters with a disability may request an accessible ballot before 5 p.m. on Tuesday, November 1, 2022. Please note: To get access to the electronic ballot, you will need to provide your email address. “We’re thrilled to offer full accessibility for our voters living with disabilities and we’re here to assist in this process anyway we can.” said City Clerk, Kaitlyn Bruce. For further information contact the Westfield City Clerk’s Office at votewestfield@cityofwestfield.org or (413)-572-6266.
