Needham Free Public Library Notes - May 2023

May 2, 2023

May is chock full of holidays to celebrate (May Day, Cinco de Mayo, Mother's Day, and Memorial Day), and we have books about all of them! We offer programs for all ages, both virtual and in person.  You can click on any image to be sent to our Event Calendar to register for the events listed. Not everything will be listed in the newsletter, so check out https://needhamlibrary.org/ for more information about upcoming services.

Congratulations to the Friends of the Needham Free Public Library on their 50th Anniversary and to the Library Foundation of Needham on their 20th Anniversary. Their work and financial support over the years has made a huge difference in the programs and services that we offer to the citizens of Needham. Congratulations is given to both groups for their recent fundraiser event, An Evening with Doris Kearns Goodwin featuring Doris Kearns Goodwin and GBH Executive Arts Editor Jared Bowen. Special thanks is also given to Livingston Taylor, the Beantown Brass Quintet, the Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden and the questions and and answer session from our own Needham Senior High School Students for helping to make this evening such a spectacular success.

Check out the Needham Public Library's YouTube Channel for recordings of past programs and our Board of Library Trustee monthly meetings. Also check out the Needham Library Childrens Channel on YouTube.

The Library is currently offering four Book Clubs - some live and some virtual or hybrid.  Click on any image below to find out how to register to attend.  And for further information, check out our Book Clubs page at https://needhamlibrary.org/services/reading/book-clubs/ .

Join Us for a Libby Overview in June!
Libby, your "one tap reading app," is the new OverDrive! Did you know that as of May 1, 2023, the OverDrive reading app is officially retired? If you're not yet a Libby user, join us in June (date to be determined) for an in-person, basic overview of Libby's great features! This will be a BASIC overview with time set aside for Q & A afterward. (Please note this is not a hands-on class, but you will be able to request 1-on-1 appointment times for follow-up.) Keep a lookout in our June newsletter for the program date! Registration will be required. Questions? Contact Robin Flynn at rflynn@minlib.net, or 781-455-7559, ext. 221.
