Meet the Authors!

In November, we hosted three local authors on a panel discussion regarding the process of writing and publishing. We're grateful to Kathleen Ralls, Paul Marion, and Ron Kolek for joining us that afternoon. If you missed it, you can watch the recording on our YouTube channel.

Holiday Book Sale

Gently used books for all ages will be sold by the Friends of the Library on Saturday, December 3 from 10am to 3pm. You might find a holiday gift for yourself or a loved one!

Meeting of the Board of Library Trustees - Wednesday, December 14, at 4:00 pm in the Director's Office on the 2nd floor. Open Meeting

Late Opening - Thursday, December 15. Library will open at 1:00 pm.

Christmas - Saturday, December 24 thru Monday, December 26. The Library will be CLOSED.

DRACUT LIBRARY KNITTERS

Thursdays at 2:00-4:00pm

We meet in the Fireplace Room.

We're not just knitters! Join us whether you knit, crochet, or do another form of needlework. All skill levels welcome. No need to register. Drop-ins Welcome.

Adult Take Home Craft - Toilet Paper Roll Wreath

We are going green this month! Recycle toilet paper rolls into this festive wreath. This wreath uses 15 toilet paper rolls. We will supply you with as many tp rolls as we can. Feel free to donate some! You will need paint, a foam brush, scissors, ruler and a glue gun.

Instructions are included in your kit. Your craft kit will be available for pick up when you receive the email "Registration is confirmed for Adult Craft Kit."

**PLEASE NOTE: If you are interested in the in-person craft night offered on 12/5/22, please register for that program separately.

Abenaki Culture and History

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 1, 7:00—8:00 PM

This program is based on curriculum developed many years ago that highlights cultural traditions, tenets and resiliency of the Abenaki people. Presented by Vera Longtoe Sheehan, founder of the Abenaki Arts and Education Center.

Adult Craft Night - Framed Holiday Card

Senior Center Book Club

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 8, 11:00 AM—12:00 PM

Love to read? Join other bibliophiles at the Senior Center's monthly Book Club discussion. This month’s selection is The Mercies by Kiran Millwood Hargrave. Copies of the book will be available at the Dracut Library.

Virtual: An Evening With Mystery Writers Sulari Gentill, Hank Phillippi Ryan, and Eva Jurczyk

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 8, 7:00—8:30 PM

Join us for an evening with Sulari Gentill, Hank Phillippi Ryan, and Eva Jurczyk, moderated by Rachel Raczka of the Boston Globe.

Everything was fine until it wasn’t—a scream in the library, books gone missing the first day on the job, a secret threatening to tear apart a perfect life. We’ll discuss intriguing mysteries with critically acclaimed authors Sulari Gentill, Hank Phillippi Ryan, and Eva Jurczyk.

In Person Drawing Class (Adults and teens 14 & up)

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 10, 9:30—11:30 AM

Do you want to learn how to draw but don't know where to start? In this class, we’ll share fun, beginner-friendly drawing techniques that can turn anyone into an artist. This class will help you overcome your fear of the blank page and focus on putting pencil to paper so you can draw the way you always wished you could.

Cribbage Club

Shake a peg! It's cribbage time. Beginner and experienced cribbage players welcome!

Parker Writer's Group

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 14, at 6:30-8pm

Join us for our adult writer's workshop! We're meeting later than usual this month. As always, tonight's session will consist of some conversation, followed by a period of reading and critiquing. We will end the session with a 20 minute writing exercise. Members will be given an assignment to work on prior to the following meeting. Everyone is responsible for emailing their completed assignment to the whole group by 7:00 pm the Sunday before our meeting. Registration is required.

Non-Fiction Book Club - Hybrid (online/in-person)

WEDNESDAY, December 21, 6:30—7:30 PM

Nonfiction book group meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm. This is a hybrid meeting that meets via zoom and in person in the library's meeting room.

At our 2022 December meeting we will be discussing Reader, Come Home: The Reading Brain in a Digital World by Maryanne Wolf. New members are always welcome. Copies of the title to be discussed will be available at the Circulation Desk a month prior to each meeting.

Virtual Guided Meditation

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 22, 11:00—11:30 AM

Pause in your busy week for 30 minutes of relaxation and self-care. On the 4th Thursday of each month, Leslie will guide us in meditation and relaxation techniques that allow the stresses of the week to melt away. Learn how to relax and reinvigorate! Wednesday Afternoon Book Group

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 28, 1:30—2:30 PM

This fiction and nonfiction book group meets on the last Wednesday of the month, from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm in the Fireplace Room. New members are always welcome. Copies of the title to be discussed will be available at the Circulation Desk a month prior to each meeting.

This month, we are reading and discussing Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt.

Tween and Teen Bingo Cards

ALL MONTH, Online

Grades 6 - 12

Create bingo by reading books that match the squares. When you have finished, return your sheet on the second floor for a chance to win a gift card! Bingo cards are available on the Teen New Book Display in the library lobby. No registration required.

YA Craft Kit

ALL MONTH

We've got a new craft planned for December! You can bring a kit home or you can drop in the YA space of the library to work on your craft with others at our tables. Either way, registration is required! Check our events calendar the week of December 5 to see the craft and register for your kit.

YA Game Day

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 10 ALL DAY

Ages 12 - 18

Bring a friend and play all of the games we have at the Dracut Library. Not only do we have board games but we have added two Switch Lites and a Switch to our collection! Have a game that you own and want to play? Feel free to bring it!

Board Games include: Anomia, Seikatsu, Sushi Go Party, Codenames, Sorry, and Checkers

Reader's Theatre Club

Have you always had a flare for dramatics? This club is for you!

Join Miss Lizzie in becoming a part of Dracut Library's very own Reader's Theatre Club! Kids will learn different acting games/exercises, theatre terminology, confidence skills, as well as different techniques in various elements of acting.

This program meets every other Monday night from 6-7pm in the Meeting Room and is for ages 7-12. Kids are encouraged to meet consistently, but new members can join anytime.

Registration is required. You will be registered for all of the corresponding events in the series.

Drop In: Winter Crafts for Kids

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 7, ALL DAY

Dracut Schools are on early release, so stop by the library to do some winter crafts! Several different types of crafts will be offered.

No registration is required for this event, but supplies will be limited!

Winter Sensory Bottles

MONDAY, DECEMBER 12, 4:30—5:30 PM

Kids ages 3-12, join us to create a winter sensory bottle! All materials will be provided, and the bottles will be yours to keep following the program.

DIY Snow

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 14, 4:30—5:30 PM

Kids in grades K-5, join us to make some snow! We'll do a little science to create it, and then have some free play! Snow will be yours to keep following the program.

Homeschool Meetup

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 16, 1:00—2:00 PM

Calling all homeschool families!! Join us 1 Friday afternoon per month for a homeschool meetup. We will have an activity for the kids to do together, and then you are free to socialize and get to know the other families. Adults are encouraged to share homeschooling practices and their experiences while the kids are doing their activity.

Registration is appreciated for this activity, but walk-ins are always welcome.

Deep Play with Jenn Gadbois

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 17, 10:00—10:30 AM

Join special guest Jenn Gadbois for her Deep Play program! Families are encouraged to participate together in the music, movement and yoga program.

CFCE STEM-Group

FRIDAYS December 2, 9, & 16, 9:00—10:00 AM

Come and join us for STEM-Group! Every week we will explore a new STEM topic for Early Learners. Our activities are focused on kids from ages 3-5, but everyone from age 0-8 years old is welcome to attend with their Caregiver. We can't wait to see you there! Ask us about additional family resources too.

The Family Resource Network is funded by the Coordinated Family and Community Engagement Grant (CFCE) from the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care.

Read with Me Book Club: Front Desk by Kelly Yang

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 21, 6:00—7:00 PM

We are so excited to offer a family book club! Kids in grades 3-7 and their caregiver will read the same book, and we will meet on December 21st at 6 pm to discuss!

This month's book is Front Desk by Kelly Yang.

Invitation to Create: Paper Snowflakes

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 27, ALL DAY

Want to make some paper snowflakes? Drop in between 9 am and 8 pm on Tuesday 12/27 to make some!

All materials will be provided, and snowflakes are yours to keep OR you can leave them here to decorate the children's room this winter!

Young Writers Club

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 28, 4:30—5:30 PM

Kiddos in grades 2-5, join us for a writing club! We will learn about creative writing, practice our skills, and read each other's work.

Indoor Snowball Fight

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 29, 1:00—2:00 PM

Kids ages in grades K-5, join us in the children's room for an indoor snowball fight with our pom-pom snowballs!

Registration is *required* for this program, and it is limited to 10 participants.

NYE Party and Balloon Drop

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 30, 11:00 AM—12:00 PM

Families of kids under 12, join us for a midday New Years Eve celebration! We will do crafts, play games and have some snacks!

We will wrap up the party with a balloon drop at noon.

Friend's Corner

There's still time! Tickets for our annual basket raffle are on sale until Saturday, December 3. Winning tickets will be drawn that afternoon before the library closes.

Our monthly meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 13. We meet at 6:30 for a casual book chat and get down to business at 7. Join us when you can! This month, the Nomination Committee will present the nominees for the 2023 board and the group will vote on the 2023 budget.
