Colonialism from a Native Perspective

Missing information, inaccurate stories, and stereotypes perpetuate myths about Columbus and Thanksgiving. When we can't describe an accurate First Nations perspective, it's often because we have grown up in a system that has made hard truths invisible. In this virtual presentation, we will explore this colonial system through primary sources and examine how language perpetuates invisibility and how we can dismantle oppression to bring accurate counter-narratives to life.

Writing Workshop with Popular Author

Writing about our lives can be inspired by many things. A single fact found through genealogical research, a forgotten photograph that falls out of a book, a letter, or even a piece of fabric can begin a writing journey. Join Grace Talusan, author of the award-winning memoir The Body Papers, for a generative writing workshop and lecture about using the material of our lives to write personal narrative.

A Social Book Group

Titles on Tap is a social book group for readers in their 20s and 30s and for the young at heart. We go in for stories that are shaken, not stirred, and we don’t mind taking our love of lit outside the library walls. Titles on Tap meets once a month in the left-hand bar of Napper Tandy’s to eat, drink, be merry, and discuss the latest reading selection. The November TOT selection is Klara and the Sun by Ishiguro.
