Montague Center Author Series

Wednesday, Sep 21, 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Local author, Richard Andersen, will discuss his book, We Called Him Bunny. Montague Center Library, 17 Center St. Montague, MA 01351 413-367-2852. Refreshments will be served.

Richard Andersen has written 30 books. A former Fulbright Professor (Norway), Karolyi Foundation Fellow (France), and James Thurber Writer-in-Residence at Ohio State University, he teaches writing and literature at Springfield College where he won the college's first "best teacher" award and was college nominated for the Carnegie Foundation's United States Professor of the Year Award. Richard will read from his most recent novel "We Called Him Bunny," a true local story about a little-known but important event in America's history of race relations.

CANAL DRAW DOWN HISTORY STROLL at the G. F. Discovery Center

Thursday, Sep 22, 5:30 pm until 7:00 pm at Check out the annual draining of the Turners Falls canal and take a stroll along the Canalside Rail Trail and absorb some local history. Wear walking shoes and meet at the entrance of the Center for this free two mile walk on flat terrain. 

How has Turners Falls’ location--along a bend of the Connecticut River--impacted its history? What is the Indigenous heritage of this community? Which industries thrived along the Turners Falls Canal? Who worked in the Canal’s factories? What were their lives like? How does the Canal affect local wildlife? What is the future of the Canal District? How will new development impact the community?
