Mansfield Public Library Monthly eNews - January 2023

From: Mansfield Public Library
January 2, 2023

On behalf of the staff of the Mansfield Public Library,
I wish you and yours a happy and healthy holiday season.

2022 saw many wonderful new programs at the library, and many of our recurring favorites! We transitioned some of our recurring virtual programs to hybrid, which allowed us to offer these great programs to those at home and in-person! Our Spice Club continues to be popular and we are even branching out into other types of cooking ingredients, including extracts and oils! We have brought back our “movies at the library”, but this time we are offering Wednesday Movie Matinee!

We had some wonderful author programs and lectures, including returning visits from author/reporter Ted Reinstein and Cape Cod historian Don Wilding, as well as some fun crafts nights for teens and adults! For the month of October we joined several neighboring libraries in the One Book One Community initiative and had some wonderful programs centered around the community reading of Voyage of Mercy: The USS Jamestown, the Irish Famine, and the Remarkable Story of America's First Humanitarian Mission By Stephen Puleo.

We continue to add items to our Library of Things, so don’t forget to stop by and check them out! This year, we added two Nintendo Switches: one in the Youth Library of Things collection, and one in the Adult Library of Things collection! So with these fun gaming consoles, you know we’ve added some fun games!

We look forward to seeing you in the new year!

VIRTUAL

Navigating College Admissions
Successfully in 2023

Wed., Jan 25th, 7:00PM

This Zoom presentation is to help families understand how the lingering effects from the pandemic have changed the college admissions landscape and how it affects Juniors, Sophomores and Freshmen.

The recent college admissions cycle was the most competitive to date. With most colleges continuing their test-optional policies as well as increasing their virtual outreach to high school students, many schools had record numbers of applicants. Record high numbers of applications result in record low acceptance rates which is what most popular colleges and universities experienced this past admissions cycle.

The presentation will be led by Ron Feuchs and Jackie Tepper, partners at Stand Out For College, LLC. (www.standoutforcollege.com)
