Mansfield Public Library Monthly eNews - Feburary 2023

January 30, 2023

Happy February, everyone!

Even though February is the shortest month of the year, there are still plenty of programs and fun events for all ages happening at the library! We are so happy to bring back "Blind Date With a Book"!

We continue to offer thought-provoking and engaging author talks through our partnership with the Library Speakers Consortium. We are also excited to offer yoga classes at the library, as well as an afternoon of romantic piano music with Musician and Composer Dan Kennedy!

Additionally, we are excited to continue our program collaboration with the Mansfield Historical Society! On Saturday, February 18th, all are welcome to join us for Monday Hector- Born a Slave, Served in the American Revolution, Died a Freeman, an insightful presentation by Rene Dearborn who recently authored an article about Monday Hector in the Register of the NEHGS.  Monday Hector was a black man enslaved by the Leonard Family of Norton in the 1700's and served in the American Revolution for six years, enlisting in Mansfield.

We also have our recurring programs, such as our Fiction Book Club, Mystery Book Club, Spice Club and newly returned Monthly Movie Matinee!

And let’s not forget all of the fun programs we have scheduled for children! We’ve got our Preschool Parachute Playgroup, Art With Mrs. Mehta, Sensory Playtime, Story Times and more!! And since school vacation happens in February, you can be sure that there are lots of great events for children and teens, including Art Lab Jr., a visit from One Up Games for an “after hours” game night and a returning favorite program, The Hot Chocolate Wars for Teens!

Wishing everyone a safe and warm February and looking forward to seeing you at the library!

Blind Date With a Book Is Back!!

For the whole month of February, we will have our special, favorite display in the library with a wide variety of books, wrapped up like your favorite Valentine’s Day present!
You won’t know the ‘identity’ of your blind date till you get it home, however there may be some hints as to who your date is…Will it be fiction or non-fiction? Funny, informative, a mystery, true-crime, a memoir, or even a Graphic Novel? The possibilities are endless. You may choose any wrapped book in our “Blind Date with a Book” display.
Also included with the books is a fun questionnaire asking you to Rate Your Date. Was your date disastrous or incredible? We want to know! Please fill it out and return it either with the book or to the reference desk.
