Next time you're checking out the library event calendar on our website you might notice that it's looking a little different.  We've still got a great line up of programs, but we've updated the format a bit.  We hope you like it as much as we do.

Read more about Claudia Fox Tree, and all the rest of our fall events, below. See you at the Library!

Voting Resources
Election Day is November 8

Election day is coming up on November 8, 2022 and early voting has already started. We wanted to pull together resources to help you decide how to vote and figure out where to cast your ballot! Voteinma.com will be able to answer most of your questions, but for specific information, check out these links in our blog. Make sure your voice is heard! Paper booklets explaining the ballot questions are available at the Lynnfield Public Library. Stop by the Reference Desk for help finding them. They are available in English, Large Print English, Spanish, and Chinese.

For Lynnfield-specific elections, don’t forget Town Meeting is also coming up and a quorum of 150 Lynnfield voters is needed to move forward on the issues up for debate. It will be held on Monday, November 14 at 7:00 P.M. in the Lynnfield Middle School. The warrant this fall will cover the Public Safety Building, amending the zoning map, a redesign and construction of the King Rail Reserve Golf Course, and senior housing, among other items. To prepare, you can review the Town Meeting Procedure at this link. To learn more about the elected vs. appointed positions in Lynnfield, visit this link.

Read to a Dog
Wednesday Nov 9, 2022, 3:30-4:30

Mitzi, a trained therapy dog, will be visiting the Lynnfield Library hoping to hear some great stories! Children may sign up for a 10-minute session and choose a book or selection from a book to read to her. Mitzi is a patient listener, so reading to her is good practice for readers who are still struggling a bit as well as pros. Program geared towards children in grades K-4. Space is limited to 6 children.

Register to reserve a time. Time to read to Mitzi is limited, so please arrive early if you need time to pick out a book. We may not be able to accept children who are late to their appointment time. If you register and can no longer attend, please email lfdyouth@noblenet.org to cancel.
If registration is full, please email lfdyouth@noblenet.org to join the waitlist.

Decolonizing Contributions by Indigenous People with Claudia Fox Tree

Wednesday, November 16 at 6:30

The Peabody, Lynnfield, and Beverly Libraries are pleased to present an interactive and informative program with professional educator and social justice activist Claudia Fox Tree. The presentation will take place on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. at the Lynnfield Meeting House, located at 617 Main Street in Lynnfield. This program is free and open to all but registration is required.

The presentation, titled “Decolonizing Contributions by Indigenous People,” will start with a hands-on activity and then decolonize what we have learned about contributions by adding important missing information. This presentation will help connect the dots from the past to the present about how Indigenous ingenuity is part of the story of contributions on what is now known as the United States. Claudia will also speak a little bit about the Indigenous perspective on Columbus and Thanksgiving. A resource list with relevant books and links to videos and articles will be provided.

Claudia A. Fox Tree (she, her) identifies as a multiracial Indigenous woman. She has been a middle school special education teacher for over 35 years. During this time, she has also taught professional development and social justice courses at the college level for Initiatives for Developing Equity and Achievement for all Students (IDEAS) and presented about decolonizing anti-racism initiatives at numerous national and local conferences.

This program is presented by the Peabody Institute Library, The Friends of the Lynnfield Library, and the Friends of the Beverly Public Library.

Registration is required on an external website for this event. Register HERE.
