Opening Greeting For Beginning Of New Fiscal Year 2022/23

Dear Friends,

We hope everyone has had a chance this summer to relax, enjoy family and friends and nature - or whatever brings you joy.  As our summer hiatus from the library comes to an end, the Friends are ready to get back in action.  We are looking forward to working closely with the new Library Director, Erin Thompson, her dedicated staff and the Trustees. We would like to officially welcome two new staff members - Dorothy Moynihan, Assistant Director, and Nicole Korodi, Youth Services Librarian.

The demolition and construction (caused by leaks during the mid February freeze) is nearing completion.  We hope to get our Book Room up and running soon. Every book you donate and every dollar you spend on used books adds to our ability to fund programs for our community.

As Interim President this year, I am excited to work with our Executive Board.  We are continuing to look for new members to join our Board.  We invite you to come to a meeting and see and hear what we are all about. We welcome new ideas and suggestions.  We meet on the first Wednesday of the month at 3:00 pm, but we can be flexible about our meeting time.  Our first meeting for this fiscal year is September 7th in the Community Room.

Please mark your calendars for our annual Harvest Fest on Saturday, October 22nd. Funds raised from our fall fundraiser, Book Room sales, membership dues and donations go directly to the library.  Thank you for your support over the years, especially during the worst of Covid 19.

I’d like to leave you with a quote from Albert Einstein.  “The ONLY thing that you ABSOLUTELY have to know is the LOCATION of the LIBRARY.” Our beloved library has something for everyone. We look forward to seeing you there!

Joan Friedman
Interim President
Friends of Newbury Town Library

Looking to get more involved in our community?  Interested in meeting new friends?  The Friends of the Newbury Town Library are a fun group of volunteers who love books, our library and our community. We are looking to expand our board and would welcome your participation. We meet on the first Wednesday of each month at 3:00 pm at the library, except for July and August. We work closely with the library staff and raise funds to support the library’s programs and resources. Meetings are open to everyone. Please join us at our next meeting and see what we are all about.
