From Our President
Welcome to the fall edition of the Friends of the Library Newsletter. Two key events mentioned below are the October Book Sale and the November Annual Meeting. The book sale is an exciting event with many great books available for purchase at bargain prices. While you are deciding which books to buy, notice how nice the Book Room looks. Our members have done an excellent job of making and keeping the room neat, attractive, and welcoming.

We hope to see you at our annual meeting. The business section, which consists of the election of officers and board members for the 2022-2023 year, will be brief. Afterwards, renowned Easton historian Hazel Varella will conduct a tour of Queset House and discuss fascinating facts concerning the history of the house. A social hour with refreshments will follow. Please join us. —Barbara A. Beech, president

Hot new accessory!

We readers might not always be the most fashion-forward people, but we all look good carrying Friends of the Ames Free Library tote bags. The Friends purchased a limited supply of high-quality tote bags from Pop Tops Sportswear, and you can buy them at the library for $20 each. Proceeds from sales go to the library’s general fund. Join Sue, Julie, Sylvia, Janice, Gloria, Barbara, Linda, Michele, and Cheryl in showing your support of the Ames Free Library. Photo by Mary Silva.

Around Easton
The Friends donated books for the Ames Free Library to give away at the NRT Harvest & Craft Fair on October 2 and the Family Fun Day and 50th Anniversary Celebration at Borderland State Park on October 8.

Inside the Book Room
We simplified our coding system in the book room in the Queset House. You may have wondered why we place dots on the books’ spines. Here’s how we maintain our book room collection:

The Friends of the Library volunteers are dedicated to providing a pleasant atmosphere and a collection of books that we hope appeals to a wide variety of readers. We put a colored dot on the spine of each donated book when it is placed on the shelves. The color of the dot indicates when it came in. We change the color every 3 months.

Recently we removed certain books from our collection that had been on our shelves a long time or were in poor condition. We donated them to More Than Words, a non-profit that “empowers young adults in the foster care system, court involved, homeless, or out of school, to take charge of their lives by taking charge of a business.”—Cheryl Brigante, book room chair

Volunteers Wanted!

Do you enjoy organizing books? We need your help in the book room to put books on shelves and keep them tidy. If you’re interested, contact us at amesfreefriends@gmail.com.

Book Sales in the Queset House

Sales of used books, in addition to membership fees and donations, supply the funding we need to provide library materials and programs not included in the AFL’s budget.

Browse the Book Room from Monday thru Thursday, 1 to 8 pm, and on Friday and Saturday, 1 to 5 pm. Most hardcovers cost $1, most paperbacks cost 50¢.

The Queset House is to the right of the main library building at 51 North Main Street, North Easton, MA 02356.

See our Facebook page to learn about new additions to the Book Room.
