New January Art Exhibit
Library Staff Art Show
There is a new Library Staff Art Show on display at the Falmouth Public Library! The Library Staff Art Show includes the work of Lisa Howland, Linda Collins, Megan Krohn, and Kim DeWall! The show, including works in watercolors, oils, mixed media, and ceramic pottery, will be on display throughout the month of January in the Adult Collections Room. The ceramic pieces are in the exhibit case in the Katherine Lee Bates Lobby.
Joy of Poetry
Joy of Poetry Reading Session
Still looking for new practices to begin 2023? Why not join us at the library to read poetry with visiting poet Joan Michelson!
This will be a hybrid group, available in person or by Zoom. We will meet on three Tuesdays, January 17th, 24th, and 31st at 11am to read and discuss poetry. For the first session, January 17th, we will read the poetry of William Carlos Williams; for the second, Joan suggests Theodore Roethke; the third poet remains to be chosen!
Please register for each session; you'll receive the Zoom link if you prefer to attend virtually.

New Kanopy Movie Club
Winter 2023: Award-Winning & Film Festival Nominees
The Falmouth Public Library has a new movie club! It's like a book club but for movies! Watch the selected movie from the comfort of your own home prior to the movie discussion meeting using Kanopy which is free with your Falmouth Public Library card. Then join us in-person at the library for an in-depth discussion of the movie.
Hunt for Wilderpeople (2016)
Our first movie discussion meeting will be on Thursday, January 26 at 3pm in the Bay meeting room where we will discuss the movie Hunt for the Wilderpeople (PG-13) directed by Taike Waititi. Hunt for the Wilderpeople had 25 award nominations with 22 wins including 2016 Best Narrative Feature at the San Francisco Film Festival, 2016 Audience Award at the Edinburgh International Film Festival/Independent Film Festival of Boston and 2017 Best Film at the New Zealand Film and TV Awards.
The Farewell (2019)

The Farewell had 105 award nominations with 35 wins including 2020 Golden Globe Winner for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, 2020 Best Independent Film from Hollywood Critics Association and 2019 Audience Favorite at the Sundance Film Festival (London).
Columbus (2017)

Columbus had 33 nominations with 12 wins including 2017 Narrative Feature at the Independent Film Festival of Boston, 2017 Special Jury Award at the Pacific Meridian International Film Festival of Asia Pacific Countries and 2017 Best Cinematography in a Feature Film at the Rahway International Film Festival.

Nature Stuff Science Exploration: What Do You "Sea"?
Did you know the beach is still full of life during the winter time!?! We collected some nature stuff at a local beach and need YOU to help us figure out what they are!

Little Bookworms Story & Craft Time

Narrative Nonfiction Book Club
Join the Narrative Nonfiction Book Club on Thursday, January 5th from 4pm-5pm in the Hermann meeting room or via Zoom to share your thoughts on Remember: The Science of Memory and the Art of Forgetting by Lisa Genova. Registration is required and copies are available for pickup at the reference desk.
"In Remember, neuroscientist and acclaimed novelist Lisa Genova delves into how memories are made and how we retrieve them. You'll learn whether forgotten memories are temporarily inaccessible or erased forever and why some memories are built to exist for only a few seconds (like a passcode) while others can last a lifetime (your wedding day). Falmouth Together Memory Cafe

The Falmouth Together Memory Cafe is a welcoming place for people living with memory concerns and their families or care companions. With guest artists, refreshments and coffee, the Falmouth Together Memory Cafe offers an opportunity to meet other people in the community who are experiencing similar concerns with memory issues.

Praying with the Body: A Place to Breathe
Join us on Monday, January 9th from 2pm-3pm in the Hermann meeting room for Praying with the Body with Saramaria Allenby! Praying with the Body combines optional movement with mindfulness and breathing. Registration is required as this class has a limit of 20 participants.
Saramaria has been providing this practice in person and online for over four years and is a contributing board member of A Place to Breathe. A Place to Breathe is a registered nonprofit whose mission is to provide caregivers and professionals with a place for respite, tools for self-maintenance, and supportive programs to build resilience, maintain well-being, and continue on the path of helping those with life-challenging illness.
This class is funded by the Board of Library Trustees.
Falmouth Senior Center Book Club
Join us on Tuesday, January 10th at 1pm at the Senior Center (780 Main Street) as we discuss this month's selection The Violin Conspiracy by Brendan Slocumb! Copies of the book can be picked up at the book club meetings at the Senior Center or at the Falmouth Public Library's reference desk. This is a drop-in group so no registration is required.

The Garden Tourist: Florida
We are delighted to welcome garden designer and author Jana Milbocker back for a Zoom presentation on Tuesday, January 10th at 3pm! Enjoy a virtual trip to the Sunshine State with a tour of exquisite gardens in Orlando, Sarasota, St. Petersburg, Naples and Miami. Learn about the palms, bromeliads, hibiscus and other gorgeous plants that thrive in this tropical climate. Registration is required.
Jana combines horticulture, design, and travel tips to educate, inspire and delight both new and seasoned gardeners. She loves to visit gardens and historic sites in the U.S. and abroad, and share her trips through her books, photos and blog.
This event is free and appropriate for adults and teens, and is sponsored by the Trustees of the Falmouth Public Library.
Virtual Mystery Book Group: Classic Mysteries
Join the Virtual Mystery Book Group on Wednesday, January 11th from 4:30pm-5:30pm via Zoom to share your thoughts on Three Classic Stories by Doyle, Leblanc, and Chesterton. For our meeting please read "A Scandal in Bohemia" (1891) by Arthur Conan Doyle, "The Arrest of Arsene Lupin" (1905) by Maurice Leblanc and "The Hammer of God" (1911) by G.K. Chesterton. Registration is required.
