Earth Day at the Duxbury Free Library

We’ve been thinking about the planet.

April has dawned bright and sunny here in Duxbury! Things are turning up green all over the building. The Garden Club has left some beautiful arrangements in the Circulation Department, there’s a great display of houseplant books in Reference, and back-to-back Earth Day programs on the docket for Saturday, April 22. It’s time to sink our hands into some lovely dirt and get to planting!

Earth Day Programs

In honor of Earth Day, join local Health Coach Meghan Watts for a story and activity focused on the connection between human health and soil health. The story "A Belly In Your Garden", by Masha D'Yans teaches kids about the importance of eating to support our gut health. Following the story, kids will participate in an activity to help them learn about what kinds of items can be composted so they can help their inner and outer gardens grow healthy and strong!

Join local Health Coach Meghan Watts to celebrate Earth Day by learning about the intricate connection between human health and soil health. This lecture and discussion will focus on how the soil our food grows in not only plays a major role in our body's ability to function properly, but is also crucial to the well-being of our planet.Meghan Watts is the owner of Back to Basics Health Coaching. If you reserved a tree for your family from the Neighborhood Forest organization, they’ll be here soon! We’ll contact you when you can come pick them up!

We held our first Plant Cuttings Swap on April 11. There was a wonderful variety of houseplants shared by staff and patrons alike. If you’re looking to add a new green friend to your home, there are a handful of propagations available on the Upper Level of the library!

Speaking of plants — the Seed Library is back in action! Get your gardening gloves ready and pick up something new at the Circulation Desk today.
