Snow Angels and Family to Family Need Volunteers
We are looking for community volunteers for two upcoming programs, and we appreciate all who are able to make the time to help their neighbors this winter.
Snow Angels
Newburyport Youth Services and the Newburyport Council on Aging are once again reaching out to the community to facilitate neighbors helping neighbors with the Snow Angels Program. Snow Angels is a voluntary snow removal service for senior citizens and persons with physical disabilities. The program’s goal is to bring together residents who want to keep their sidewalks clear, but are physically unable to do so, with volunteers who want to help out their community. The program will run from December 1, 2022 through March 31, 2023.
When residents sign up as a Snow Angel and you will be connected with a neighbor requiring assistance. We do our best to match folks within a few blocks of each other when possible. Volunteers are asked to help one resident for the full winter season and to shovel anytime there is a ½ inch or more of snow. We only ask that sidewalks are cleared and the home has a means of egress cleared. Local ordinances require that sidewalks be cleared within 48 hours after a storm. Some of our residents may require their property cleared earlier if they receive at home care such as visiting nurses or meals on wheels.

Family to Family
With Halloween nearly here, our holiday programs are already under way. Family to Family is a unique program run by Youth Services and the YWCA Greater Newburyport to provide holiday cheer to families from the area. The program matches groups (families, groups of friends or co-workers or businesses) with families in need with a hope that everyone in their household can receive one wish and one need. All matches are completed before Thanksgiving for folks who like to get their shopping done early! As of now, we already have over 250 gift recipients signed up and we need more volunteer gift givers.
