Quarterly Update from Director Erica Hout

Our library is something to be truly proud of, and that’s never been more clear since resuming normal services this last year. We're back to our pre-COVID numbers for circulation, programs, and attendance! This summer we had the highest number on record for Summer Reading participants. We’ve expanded our collection of museum passes, and now provide additional items such as games, mobile hot spots, and even flower and produce seeds. The library has resumed monthly local artist exhibits, and continues to provide home delivery to patrons in need. Many of our events are now offered in hybrid format so participants may opt to join in person or online. In an effort to offer even more access to free films and television shows, we've added the streaming service Kanopy to our online collections.

Since the spring, the library’s Strategic Planning Committee has been holding guided community conversations with students, various town groups and individual residents. We’ve gained some amazing insights into our community, and are now in the final stages of creating a Strategic Plan that will shape and guide the library’s main goals for the next few years.

Our staff has been working hard to develop a fall lineup of exciting programs and offerings. We’re delighted to host the first annual Fall Festival on our beautiful, historic Common this October 15th. Local vendors, farms, artisans, and other Boylston town departments will come together to support our common missions with live music and fun activities.

I’d like to take a moment to recognize some of our dedicated library community members. We've welcomed two new Trustees to the Board this summer, secretary Arlene Murphy and member at large Beth Wilson. We're also thrilled to be working alongside Maria Zapp in her new role as Trustee chairperson, and Prashant Bhabhalia in his new role as secretary. Finally, the Boylston Public Library Foundation, Inc. and the Friends of the Boylston Library have continued to worked tirelessly to support and sponsor all of our initiatives. These successes are only possible because of you!

We look forward to seeing you in the library or at an event this fall.
You belong here.
