The Library's Summer Reading Program, Read Beyond the Beaten Path, is here! Beaman Library has a number of exciting summer camp-themed programs and events planned for our community members this summer! Keep reading to learn more!

The Massachusetts Statewide Summer Library Program is funded by the Massachusetts Library System, the Boston Bruins, and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

Our annual Summer Reading Program for Adults will occur during June, July, and August! This year, log the number of minutes read or listened to using Beanstack. To participate, visit Beaman Library's Beanstack page and register for the Summer 2022: Read Beyond the Beaten Path for Adults challenge. If you read or listen to at least 100 minutes of content during the summer months you will be included in an end-of-challenge prize drawing. And...more reading translates into more drawing entries, so keep reading! Thank you to the Friends of the Beaman Library for funding our Summer Reading Program!

Haiku with Loree Griffin Burns
Thursday, June 2 at 6:30 p.m.

Join West Boylston writer Loree Griffin Burns to reconsider and reconnect with the natural world through this seemingly simple poetic form. This group is for teenagers and adults, beginner to master, interested in exploring haiku in English. Join us to wander indoors and out, to read, to write, and to share our poems.

Pollinators and Pollinator Gardens
Saturday, June 4 at 10:00 a.m. 

Join Kathryn from the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation to learn how to identify some native plants and pollinators so that you can join the movement to attract pollinators to your own backyard. Please email jwright@cwmars.org at least 24 hours prior to this program to register. Teens and adults are welcome at this event.

Yoga with Taylor
Tuesday, June 14 at 5:30 p.m.

This class is for those who would like to slow down and enjoy a gentle-paced flow. With emphasis on connecting breath to movement, students will have an opportunity to experience a mindful and relaxing practice. Please dress for movement and bring a yoga mat or thick towel. Props are not required.

Mindfulness Meditation & Hatha Yoga for Stress Reduction & Relaxation with Carol McGuiggan 
Wednesdays, June 15 & 22 at 6:30 p.m. 

For beginner, intermediate, and experienced practitioners. Learn hatha yoga and mindfulness skills to turn off ‘auto-pilot’ and open to life more fully. Please bring a yoga mat, sitting cushion, and a receptive attitude.

Book Discussion Group

Thursday, June 16 at 12:30 p.m. 
Join us to discuss Flight of the Sparrow by Amy Belding Brown. Copies of this book are available at the circulation desk.

Make Dinner at the Library
Tuesday, June 21 at 5:00 p.m.

Make Four Fold Quesadillas with the Food Explorers! All ingredients will be provided. When done, enjoy dinner on the Library’s front lawn! Email jwright@cwmars.org at least 24 hours prior to this program to register. Parents, bring your teen and have them make dinner for you!

Nonfiction Book Discussion Group
Friday, June 24 at 1:00 p.m.

Join us to discuss Remember: The Science of Memory and the Art of Forgetting by Lisa Genova. Copies of this book are available at the circulation desk.

Cast Iron Cooking
Thursday, June 30 at 6:00 p.m. 

Enjoy an evening of food and discussion about how to cook with cast iron. We will discuss fire safety, how to build a good fire, and types, care of, and best uses for cast iron. And, of course, favorite recipes!

Fun  For  Teens

This summer, Read Beyond the Beaten Path with Beaman Library!

This year, teens will record the number of minutes read each day. For every 100 minutes read, a new camp-related Beanstack badge will be earned and readers can come in to claim a scratch off ticket. Each scratch off ticket will reveal a prize that can be collected at the Library. Once teen readers have recorded 1,000 minutes, they will be entered in the grand prize drawing for a prize valued at $100!

Post-It Note Art
Ongoing Throughout Summer

Stop by the Teen Space, grab a Post-it note, and create a tiny piece of art with the materials provided. When you are done, add it to our ‘sticky’ display!

Creepy Campfire
Thursday, June 2 at 4:00 p.m.

Ghost stories around the fire are the ultimate camp experience. Join Jessica for a creepy campfire; share spooky stories around our indoor ‘blaze’ and enjoy some s'mores outside afterwards!

Macramé Coasters
Wednesday, June 8 at 4:00 p.m.

Learn the art of macramé, a method of creating textiles by tying knots. All of the materials needed to create a coaster that you can take home with you will be provided.

Hand Sewing for Beginners
Wednesday, June 15 at 5:30 p.m. 

During this two-hour workshop, Michelle will teach the basics of hand sewing as you complete a simple project - a tiny emoji! Leave with a beginner sewing kit as well!

Make Dinner at the Library
Tuesday, June 21 at 5:00 p.m.

Join the Food Explorers at the Library to make Four Fold Quesadillas! All ingredients will be provided. When done, enjoy dinner on the Library’s front lawn! Teens, bring along your parent or caregiver, if you would like!

Crafternoon
Thursdays June 23 at 3:00 p.m.

Feeling crafty? Stop by the Library and satisfy those crafty cravings! A variety of materials will be available for you to use and create what you wish.

What are you reading? Join us on Zoom for an opportunity to talk about your current read.

Fun  For  Children

Our Summer Reading Program, Read Beyond the Beaten Path, begins June 21 and runs through August 16. To sign up, visit Beaman Library's Beanstack site and register for the Summer 2022: Read Beyond the Beaten Path for Kids challenge. Once summer reading begins, log books, participate in challenges, and put “tickets” in your prize choices.

We are accepting prize donations to encourage our young readers to participate. These donations are tax deductible and need not be grandiose in nature; puzzles, art supplies, LEGO sets, etc. all inspire our youngest patrons to read. Thank you to Menard's Auto Body for donating a kid's bike of choice!

Donuts and Dads
Saturday, June 18, 10:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Bring Dad to the Library and bring home some munchkins! Borrow books celebrating Dads and kits to make a Father’s Day gift for him. To register, email ssmith@cwmars.org with 'Donuts' in the subject line by June 15. 

Take and Make Crafts*

Zoo Animal Program
Wednesdays, June 22 thru August 17 at 11:00 a.m.

Each week we will stream a live cam in our meeting room, read stories about the featured animal, and create a craft. One week before this program email ssmith@cwmars.org with 'Zoo' in the subject line to sign up.

Henry the Juggler
Thursday, June 23 at 6:30 p.m.

Henry the Juggler (aka Henry Lappen) is wanted by audiences everywhere for his zany attempts to defy the laws of gravity as he juggles balls, clubs, rings, and members of the audience! Beyond the Beaten Path Trivia Night
for Families

Billboard Detectives
Thursday, June 30 or Friday, July 1

Visit the Rail Trail in West Boylston on Thursday or Friday anytime during daylight hours and walk the trail doing the activities on the story boards. Once complete, visit the Library to receive a prize! Email ssmith@cwmars.org with 'Billboard Detective' in the subject line to let us know you are participating by June 23.

Art Camp
Thursday, July 7 at 5:00 p.m.

Learn facts about famous artists and then create your own art using one artist’s methods. This is for upper elementary students in grades 4-6. Please email ssmith@cwmars.org with 'Art' in the subject line by June 28 to reserve your spot. 

Dino Tea Party
Tuesday, July 12 at 10:30 a.m. 

Join us on the Library lawn to read the book Tea Rex by Molly Idle and enjoy dinosaur-inspired snacks! We will make fizzing dino eggs and fossil prints. Please email ssmith@cwmars.org with 'Dino' in the subject line by June 30 to reserve your spot. Rain date: Friday, July 15

Pokémon Club
Third Wednesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. in the Library. Join your friends to swap, trade, play, and talk about everything Pokémon.

Ukulele Day
Saturday, June 25 between 9:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
