The Cape Cod National Seashore is visible as you travel along Route 6A. With stops in several towns, the beaches and trails are sublime. Fall foliage is expected to peak the third week in October and is stunning when viewed along this route.
Stop for lunch in East Sandwich at the 6A Café. Have breakfast for lunch or check out their great assortment of sandwiches, salads and burgers. Their meatloaf hash is sublime!
Just a short drive from your lunch spot, you can walk off your meal along the Bourne Trails. Enjoy rustic paths through brilliant field—almost all with views of the beach or the bay in full view.
Yes, you’ll back track a few miles to get here, but after your hike, a visit to the Crow Farm apple orchard is well worth your while. Pick a few apples or simply pick up a bag to go. You’ll enjoy them throughout the remainder of your road trip.
With hauntings reported as recently as 2005, Barnstable House is said to be haunted by a previous owner. Dubbed “The House of 11 Ghosts,” Edmund Hawes hanged himself on the property countless years ago. The house has been visited by Syfy Channel’s “Ghost Hunters.” Tours are available.
Visit for a cold brew to end your long day of driving. Barnstable Brewing is new, and is the perfect place to unwind. Sample one of 28 beers brewed onsite. Consider taking a brewery tour the next time you’re in town.
A 45-minute drive from Hyannis finds you in Wellfleet, and the Wellfleet Mote & Lodge is a perfect sport to stay the night. The owners provide an “inn” feel, but the amenities are akin to those in a nice hotel. You’ll be rested and refreshed after a good night’s sleep here.
You’ll love the pancakes and fresh fruit at the Flying Fish Café and Deli, plus it’s just minutes from where you spend the night. Fuel up here as you continue your drive along Route 6A.
At the end of Route 6A you’ll find Provincetown, and in addition to this eclectic, artsy town you’ll love the sand dunes. Easily viewed from the road, they’re even more spectacular when you get out and walk on the sand. There is a parking lot and beach adjacent to the dunes that allow you to do just that. Be sure to bring your camera!
