Memorial Day Salute to Service Flag Garden

Wednesday, May 22, 2024 from 10:45am to 1:45pm
Plainville Historical Commission
136 South Street

It's hard to believe, but May will be here before we know it! So we're beginning to prepare for the Memorial Day Salute to Service Flag Garden set up.

As in the past we're looking for volunteers to help plant more than 800-900 Flags honoring the men and women with a Plainville connection who have served. This Memorial Day will for the first time feature three new elements.

One new addition will be the inclusion of those who fought during the King Philip's War Conflict.

But we will also be creating a special section of the Garden that we'll share more information about as it gets closer. But we know it will be eye opening for visitors.

We are hoping that volunteers will once again join us on Wednesday May 22nd to plant the flags. The flags will be pre-prepped and organized by conflict prior to the 22nd. Last November the whole project took roughly 2 hours, but went smooth and quick. We're hoping with all the rain we've had the ground will be nice and soft and the flags will be planted easy. We're aiming to start planting around 11.

Munchkins, water, coffee, and tea will be available!

We also hope that everyone will take the time to visit the garden and see just how many from Plainville have served, especially now with the addition of King Philip's War. This garden has meant the world to the commission and has become a very special project. It started as a simple idea to connect the library with the historical commission and it has bloomed into a beautiful sea of Red, White, and Blue that unites the community. It is one of a kind as far as we know and truly means the world to us.

Our Associate Member Deb has taken this project over and she has created not only a beautiful memorial and way to honor those who have served, but her work has also given us an irreplaceable wealth of Military Research for the Archives. One that like the garden, continues to grow. So we can never thank her enough for her incredible and continued work on this.

Please help spread the word and message the commission if you plan on joining us on the 22nd!
