Staff Picks!

Here's what the Topsfield Librarians have been reading this month:

Dead Until Dark

By Charlaine Harris

Stef was in in the mood for something Halloween-y, and has been rereading Charlaine Harris’s Sookie Stackhouse books! The first in the series is Dead Until Dark. -Stef's Pick!

Starter Villian
By John Scalzi

"I’m reading Starter Villian right now. Solid book- witty and silly, I recommend it!" -Sean's Pick!

Hamnet
By Maggie O'Farrell

Hamnet is a novel inspired by the son of a famous playwright. It is a story of the bond between twins and of a marriage pushed to the brink by grief.  It is the tender reimagining of a boy whose life has been all but forgotten, but whose name was given to one of the most celebrated plays ever written. Maggie O’Farrell has taken a small footnote of history and turned it into a beautifully crafted story of love and loss. (Audiobook version) -Noreen's Pick!

Home Before Dark
By Riley Sager

This was a great book for a cozy rainy day. I think the whole back and forth way of telling stories, with a chapter in the past and the next chapter in the present, has been overused, but this was a slightly different flavor of that method of storytelling and it really hit the right note with me.

I had a lot of theories as I went through (I love a book where I can try to solve the mystery as I read), and I was right about a couple of things but Riley Sager is great at writing a twist ending and I definitely didn't see it coming.

This story was eerie in just the right amount, combining a ghost story with true crime, and had a satisfying ending. Definitely recommend! -Becca's Pick!
