News

New Staff!
You may have noticed some new faces at the library. Stop by to welcome, Savannah, our new Teen Librarian, and Julia and Janina, whom you'll see working our Saturday shifts!

Holiday Closure
The Library will be closed on Monday, January 15 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
The Library will reopen on Tuesday, January 16 at 10AM.

2024 Reading Challenge

Join the Massachusetts Center for the Book's 2024 Reading Challenge! January's challenge is: A book you read years ago that you may feel different about now.

MVLC Mobile App Unavailable

Due to a conflict between the Merrimack Valley Library Consortium’s mobile developer and our library software provider, the MVLC Mobile app became permanently unavailable as of November 27, 2023. Click here for updates on the app’s status.

Upcoming Events

Play Group
Thursdays, January 4 and 18 at 10AM
Families are invited to the library to play and explore with toys and everyday materials.
All ages are welcome, keep in mind there may be some small parts.

Teen Crafts & Snacks
For those in grades 7-12!
Thursdays in January 3PM-4:30PM

Join us here at the library to work on a fun art project and eat some provided snacks! Below is the schedule:

January 4: Friendship bracelets
January 11: Origami
January 18: Beaded friendship pins
January 25: Blackout poetry bookmarks

Saturday Family Storytime
Saturday, January 6 10AM-10:30AM

Families are invited to a Saturday morning Storytime.  The program will include 3 to 4 books, rhymes and songs, and a craft or activity.  This program is for all ages.

Reading to a Library Dog
Monday, January 8 at 4PM
Come and read to Aston, a certified therapy dog. Registration is required. This program is designed to help develop reading skills and is recommended for children who want to practice their reading fluency.

Baby and Toddler Storytime
Tuesdays 10AM-10:30AM starting Tuesday, January 9

Ages birth to 2 1/2 years
Program will include two to three books, songs, finger-plays, and circle games. Siblings are welcome.  Families are welcome to stay and play afterwards.

Family Story Time
Fridays 10AM-10:30AM starting Friday, January 12

All ages! Three to four books will be read. Children and parents will also participate in songs, finger-plays, and a simple craft. No snacks during the program.

Pajama Story Time
Wednesday, January 17 at 6:45PM

Come to a pajama story time at the library.  Books, songs and a quiet activity will be provided.  Wearing pajamas is encouraged.  This program is for all ages.

LEGO Build
Friday, January 19 3PM-4:30PM

Do you love to build?  Families are invited to drop in to build with LEGO’s and maybe other building materials.  A new building challenge will be available every program, but you are free to build what you want.

Teen and Adult Craft Night
Wednesday, January 24 6PM-7:45PM

Join our librarians for a drop-in craft night where you'll make a winter luminaria!
This is a free, drop-in event. There are limited craft supplies so this event is first come, first serve.

Chess Club
Thursday, January 25 at 3:30PM

For students in 3rd - 6th grade. An informal gathering of students interested in playing chess with others.  A knowledge of how to play chess is recommended.  The chess boards and pieces will be provided. No instruction will be available at this event. Register online.

Book Groups

GPL Book Group
Monday, January 8 at 7PM

Beginner Book Club
Tuesday, January 9 at 4PM

For anyone in Kindergarten – 2nd grade.  Join us for a book discussion and questions, along with jokes, riddles, and a craft! The book will be provided and read together (independent reading skills are not required).  Registration is required.

Senior Center Book Group
Wednesday, January 17 at 2PM

This month's selection is The Stationery Shop by Marjan Kamali. This group meets at the Georgetown Senior Center. Copies of the book will be available at the Circulation Desk. Questions? Contact Sarah at scognata@georgetownpl.org 

Graphic Novel Book Club
Tuesday, January 23 at 4PM

Love graphic novels?  Never read one, but want to give it a try?  Register for a session, then come to the library to pick up a copy of the month’s selection, which we will discuss together at the club meeting.  Popcorn provided! Registration is required.
