Welcome to our monthly library newsletter. Each month we will share our upcoming programs, library happenings, and featured new items!

Blood Pressure and Wellness Clinic

Seascapes: How to Pastel Paint

Saturday, June 3rd at 12:30 p.m.

Award-winning artist Gregory Maichack returns to the library to present a workshop on how to pastel paint. This workshop offers both beginner and advanced participants an opportunity to creatively explore pastel painting inspired by the work of Winslow Homer. Participants will receive instruction on expressive pastel strokes, blending, slurring, layering, and creating the wave effect of spray by embedding pigment particles into the painting. 

All supplies are provided, and patrons go home with their own work of art.

This project is supported in part from a grant from the Dennis Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. 

Native Plants of Cape Cod

Thursday, June 15th at 6 p.m. 

The Master Gardener Association of Cape Cod will host a presentation on native plants of Cape Cod. The presentation will provide an overview of native plants and discuss native plants that are ideal for home landscaping and planting.

Identity Theft and Fraud Prevention

Thursday, June 22nd at 6:00 p.m.

Robin Putnam, Events & Outreach Manager from the Office of Consumer Affairs & Business Regulation, will host a presentation on identity theft and fraud prevention. Topics will include recent identity theft trends and scams, how to identify and avoid identity theft, and steps consumers can take if they are the victim of fraud or identity theft.

VNA Fitness Programs

VNA of Cape Cod Public Health and Wellness

Mindful Movement with the VNA. Wednesdays, May 17-June 21 at 12:30. 

Decompress through movements, stretching, and breathing exercises that improve your fitness, while calming the mind. Presented by the Visiting Nurse Association of Cape Cod. Please call their office to register: 508-957-7423.

Transportation for Dennis residents can be arranged through the Dennis Center for Active Living. Please call them at 508-385-5067.

English for Speakers of Other Languages

Thursdays and Fridays

The library is holding informal sessions to learn conversational English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL):

Thursdays, at 6:00 p.m. & Fridays, at 12:30 p.m.

June Art Display

Jessica Coen is a homeschooling mother of three. She created Happy Hoops as a way to handle the stress of daily life. Through this form of art she has found a simple way of relaxing and creative therapy.

Her art can be found on Facebok under Happy Hoops. Please inquire on Facebook for purchases.

Jessee's art will be on display in our display cabinet throughout the month of June.

Call for Artists for 2023

The Dennis Public Library wants to show you off!

The Dennis Public Library is seeking new artists to display their “two-dimensional” work in the library’s busy meeting room. The library also has a largedisplay case in the main lobby suitable for showcasing three-dimensional work.These spaces are available together or separately. Show periods run for one calendar month and artists are welcome to hold an opening. If you are, or know of, an artist who has not shown at the library since our post-Covid reopening, please consider displaying at the library.
The library is located at 5 Hall Street in Dennis Port.
